A last minute testimony

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20.

A last minute testimony
A French magazine collected several testimonies of men condemned to death in certain states of the U.S.A. They were remarks made before their execution. Many revealed rebellion, but what Michael W. H. expressed was moving:

"First I should like to express my sincere regret to the family of Amy (his victim). I have caused them a lot of pain, mourning, chagrin and suffering, and that causes me profound distress. I know that I cannot bring her back among us. Know that meanwhile I am no longer the person I was; that person is dead. I should also like to say to my family: I have caused you a lot of suffering. I ask your forgiveness. I am a big fellow who cries like a baby; but I do not cry for myself; I weep for those who are no longer, for those who are dying and who do not know God, those who have not been freed from their sins.

I have been in prison for thirteen years. But I have not been confined to myself all these years; I am free, for Christ has changed me. Even if I must die for my wrongdoing, He has paid for mine more than I could ever pay Him back!"

Dear reader, do you know such freedom and peace as emanate from these words of Michael's expressed only a few minutes before his death? You are most certainly not a criminal, but you need the same Saviour as he did: Jesus Christ.

Today's reading: Isaiah 53:1-12 · Hebrews 12:18-29

To you is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God;

(Mark 4:11)

The Lord Jesus told His disciples that they would be given an understanding in "the mystery of the kingdom of God." He also spoke of another class of people to whom everything would be spoken in parables; these He described as, "them who are without." How solemn that God should...More

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
