Today's reading: Psalm 74

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
2 Timothy 1:10

The literal meaning of the word "gospel" is "good news". It is a message of victory. God Himself has made known the glorious message of the tremendous victory wrought by Jesus Christ at the cross. On the day of the crucifixion, His enemies imagined they had finally got rid of Jesus. In fact, through His death and resurrection, He conquered death and the devil.
In Greek history, there is an incident that illustrates pointedly the significance of the word "gospel". The marathon race in the Olympic Games is a reminder of the event. 2,500 years ago, a Greek runner returned to Athens from the battle against the Persian king Darius. He stormed through the city gate, uttering just one cry in his exhaustion: "Victory". Then he collapsed and died. The man had covered some 25 miles running from the plain of Marathon to Athens, so as to bring his compatriots the news of liberation.
Until today, God has called on his messengers to make known the gospel of the grace of God, the content of which is: turning to God by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul says of this gospel that it is "the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes" . All who believe this good news are freed from the bond of sin and the power of the devil and take their stand on the side of the Victor of Calvary, Jesus Christ, God's well beloved son.

NEGATIVE LIVING

Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More
