September 4, 2015 Today's reading: Psalm 78:1-25 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 1 Peter 1:18-19 Who deserves our congratulations: someone who has won the lottery, or someone who has taken today's verse from the Bible to heart? Let us hear what Jesus Christ said on the subject: "One's life does not consist in the abundance of things he possesses" (Luke 12:15) and on another occasion: "What profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?" (Matthew 16:26). Genuine, satisfying life cannot be bought with material goods. With money one can purchase pleasures, but not happiness, life insurance but none against death, a place in the cemetery but not in heaven. But what no one can obtain with his wealth, God offers you free of charge: peace, reconciliation with Himself and true happiness. Maybe you wonder what is behind such an offer. Quite simply: God's love! The Bible says that everyone has been in a disturbed relationship with God from his youth being a sinner and having disregarded His will. Therefore, His judgment awaits him. But God loves mankind and offers him a way of escape: Jesus Christ paid the debt of the guilt of all who put their faith in Him. That is why He died on the cross. Today, He, the risen One, is calling on you to believe in Him. That is the way to incorruptible heaven riches. |

The LORD is near for Friday, October 2, 2021 by Jacob Redekop, Brian Reynolds, John van Dijk, Eugene P. Vedder Jr Not I but Christ Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. Mark 8:34 Not I but Christ I have heard it said, "People should be allowed to be themselves." But I can find no scriptural basis to support this statement, for freedom "to be myself" is to...More |
