The end of the age (1)

There will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars, and on the earth distress of nations with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them for fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the power of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.
Luke 21:25-28.

The end of the age (1)
With these prophetic words Jesus Christ draws our attention to the end time, the period before His return to the earth.

Immediately before the appearance of Jesus unrest in the world and the helplessness of politicians will reach their climax. Even today climate change shows what massive problems it causes, while the fact that important raw materials will be used up in the foreseeable future is causing considerable concern. We also hear regularly that asteroids are coming dangerously close to the earth's orbit. Before Jesus' return there will be fearful signs in the sky and distress and helplessness in an inevitable situation on earth - justifiable fear of what is to come.

For all true believers in that time ‘"redemption draws near", although they will have to endure anti-Christian persecution. How they will rejoice to be set free from it all and to enter Jesus' kingdom of peace!

Christians today look forward to this appearance and His coming kingdom. But they have another "expectation": they have the promise that Christ will take them to be with Himself in the eternal glory of the Father's house before the great tribulation of the end of the age.

Today's reading: Ecclesiastes 4:1-16 · Mark 5:21-34
