Seven years ago yesterday the weekend began quite normally in...

Behold, now is the day of salvation.

Prepare to meet your God.

2 Corinthians 6:2; Amos 4:12.

Seven years ago yesterday the weekend began quite normally in Paris. Restaurant terraces, concert halls, stadiums were full of people seeking enjoyment and relaxation. Then in the course of the evening a series of brutal terror attacks caused the death of 130 people, many of them still young.

Some days later a day of state mourning was held with a service of remembrance in the Dôme des Invalides. For a period of ten minutes there was utter silence while the names of the victims were read out. Listening, many of those present thought that they themselves might have been among them.

It was a solemn moment, in which the earnest question arose: what comes after death? Nothing? Annihilation? Indeed not! Eternity? Certainly!

God confirms it in the Bible - eternity awaits each one of us either in His presence in light, or far removed from Him in darkness and torment.

Am I ready to meet God? Our life can end at any moment, even in everyday situations. And the question of what and where we shall be in eternity must be decided now, while we are still alive. Let us therefore listen to what God says. He invites us to believe in Jesus Christ, who loved us and Himself underwent the punishment for lost sinners.

God's invitation is thus an urgent matter, for "now is the day of salvation". Whether we shall have the chance to be converted tomorrow we do not know.

Today's reading: Ecclesiastes 7:15-29 · Mark 6:14-20

The Psalmist prayed, Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting' (Psalms 139:23-24 NKJV). If you're wise you'll...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
