The bridge over the Firth of Tay

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For the scripture says, Whoever believes on him will not be put to shame.
Romans 10:9.11.

The bridge over the Firth of Tay
On the 28th December 1879 a hurricane was raging over the east coast of Scotland, wind force 10 to 11. The two mile long bridge over the estuary of the Firth of Tay was regarded as a technical masterpiece that would surely withstand any amount of strain.

At 7:00 p.m. a train was approaching from the south. It slowed down, so that the engine driver could receive a baton from the bridge-keeper. Without it, crossing the bridge on the single track was prohibited. Then the train picked up speed again.

An eye-witness suddenly spotted sparks flying like a comet - a long streak of fire that disappeared in the water, Then all was darkness. The entire centre section of the bridge, with the train and its 75 passengers, had collapsed and plunged into the water. The cause of the accident was established later: numerous construction faults, negligent supervision, poor material, insufficient maintenance and excessive speed.

Will our life's bridge hold firm? Have we a secure foundation for our life's journey? Can it withstand any storm and bring us safely to the destination - heaven?

One thing is certain: all human work is dross. This is certainly true when it is a matter of eternal salvation. We cannot rest on what we have done. Our efforts are worthless. We have to put our trust wholly in Jesus. He is the way to God - a secure bridge over the abyss between God and man.

Today's reading: Malachi 2:1-17 · Mark 15:40-47

And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their...More

JESUS IN YOUR BOAT

No doubt, life in a sense is like the sea. A characteristic of the sea is that storms of varying degrees arise, putting the lives of those sailing on it in jeopardy of being drowned. In Jesus' Name, the storms of life will not be able to drown you, your family and your business. While literal storms are natural...More
