Virtual

Surely every man walks about like a shadow; surely they busy themselves in vain.

You turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.

Psalm 39:6; 1 Thessalonians 1:9.

Virtual
The word "virtual", formerly used infrequently, has become highly significant through the digital revolution.

Our screens can present images that do not correspond to reality - virtual images. By means of the website you can make contact with fictitious speakers. Through the social network you can also create virtual friendships with persons you will never meet except on your screen. In this way our life becomes more and more disconnected from reality. Isn't this dream (or nightmare) environmentally dangerous, being far from basic realities?

What are these realities? The Bible invites us to reflect on our relationship with God, the Creator of all that exists, on the origin of the evil polluting humanity, on the sense of life, its frailty, its outcome, on death and the hereafter. These matters are not virtual but closely related to our existence on earth now.

In Jesus, God's Son, born in the world, a Man among men, God, who is Spirit and invisible, came to give us the answer to these questions. Jesus is not a virtual being, but a living Person who wishes to enter our life. He offers us deliverance from sin; this is not illusory but a reality that can transform our life effectively.

God's intention is to grant not a dream but real life that He can fill with His presence and His love.

Today's reading: Exodus 2:16-3:6 · Luke 1:26-38

YOU CAN BE HIS WITNESS

As a bona fide member of the Kingdom of God, you must be a proof of His power to save. Matthew 1:21 says Jesus shall save His people from sin.

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

Don't Lose Sight

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
