Living Single

‘ [God]will notleave you without support' Hebrews 13:5 AMP
Colleen Alden writes: ‘I'm singleThe kind of companionship I ache forI don't have. This feeling drives me to seek GodWhy am I single when I long to love and be loved?...Though it's pointless to use our limited understanding to critique God's plans, it's helpful to catch glimpses of what He's creating in me: Courage: to go home every night to someone who believes in me might make facing the scarier parts of life easierSingleness forces me to lean on Godto face an uncertain future without fear. Psalm 27:1 NIV says, "The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid?" He's my protector, provider and Saviour whether I've a husband or not. Faith: Paul says, "Be satisfied with your present circumstancesGodwill notleave you without support." Do I believe He knows best even when it hurts and I don't understand? When we've tasted loneliness past what we can bearcry out to Jesus. He's "close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalms 34:18 NIV). He knows what it is to long for somethingHe's longed for the affection of his loved ones for centuries. Authenticity: once in a while a man sparks my interestThen a funny thing happens. The more interested I become, the more I become someone elseThe old fears kick in. Am I pretty enough? Thin enough? Charming and talkative enough? God made me who I am, and years of being single have allowed me to learn who this woman isI'd rather be single than be with someone who wants me to be someone else.'

Soul Food Reading: Num 4:34-6:27

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Always Be Humble

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
