Why Skeptics Still Get the Story of Jesus Wrong

It wasn’t long ago that, every Easter and Christmas, an onslaught of articles and TV specials would appear in places like Time, National Geographic, The New York Times, Newsweek, CNN, and others, doubting the reliability of the Bible, the historicity of Christ, and the development of Christianity. Among the claims made were that Jesus never existed, that the Gospels are later fabrications, and that the Resurrection accounts are knock-offs from pagan mythology. Thankfully, the sheer volume of such pieces declined, much like the New Atheists.

However, a recent article in the New Yorker resurrected such claims. In “We’re Still Not Done with Jesus,” Adam Gopnik reviewed a new book by Elaine Pagels about the life of Christ. The well-written piece covers much of the scholarship and literature surrounding the accounts of Jesus...more

The Hidden Depths of Holy Week and What They Mean for Us

The Hidden Depths of Holy Week and What They Mean for Us

This past weekend has been known as Palm Sunday weekend.

So what?

It’s a fair question. In our culture, the significance of sacred days and times has long been forgotten. We live our lives on the surface of frenetic activity, seldom adding depth to any given moment. We surf and skim over a body of information but rarely dive into the depths of knowledge, much less wisdom.

There are no “thin times,” as the ancient Celts would have observed; times when the separation between the eternal and the temporal was thin enough to walk the soul between both worlds.

But without that sensibility, we are lesser people.

So here’s the “so what.”

Palm Sunday is the traditional beginning of what has been known throughout...more

Two decades later, in 2023, Cardinal Juan Jose Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona, commissioned a group of religious and lay people to press his cause.

Gaudi, who was born in 1852, was a prolific architect whose distinctive style was characterized by freedom of form, color and texture. He worked almost entirely in or near Barcelona. Seven properties built by Gaudi, including Parque Güell, Palacio Güell and the Sagrada Familia are named in UNESCO's World Heritage List.

A convalescing Pope Francis made a surprise in-person appearance when he greeted the crowd in St. Peter's Square on Palm Sunday, another reassuring sign of his recovery from a life-threatening battle with double pneumonia.

The 88-year-old pontiff was brought in a wheelchair down a ramp to the main altar, where he issued a brief greeting wishing more than 20,000 faithful a "Good Palm Sunday, a good Holy Week." Francis was not wearing nasal tubes for supplemental oxygen, as he had during a similar appearance last...more

Jesus Movies Dominate as 3 Bible-Based Films Hit Top 10 at Box Office

Bible-based movies scored big at the box office over the weekend, led by an animated movie that broke records for a faith-based title. Angel Studio's The King of Kings outperformed expectations to finish second with an estimated $19,050,397 -- the best opening for a faith-based film in the post-pandemic era and the fourth-best of all time, trailing only The Passion of the Christ (2004, $83.8 million), The Son of God (2014, $25.6 million) and Heaven Is for Real (2014, $22.5 million).

It's the best opening for a faith-based movie in more than a decade. Moviegoers gave it a perfect A+ CinemaScore grade.

"We're thrilled to see The King of Kings connect so deeply with audiences," said Brandon Purdie, Angel's global head of theatrical distribution and brand development....more

Keith Kellogg Condemns Russia after Palm Sunday Attack in Ukraine

U.S. Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg condemned Russia after launching an attack in Ukraine on Palm Sunday.

"Today's Palm Sunday attack by Russian forces on civilian targets in Sumy crosses any line of decency," Kellogg wrote. "There are scores of civilian dead and wounded. As a former military leader, I understand targeting, and this is wrong. It is why President Trump is working hard to end this war."

As reported by Ukrainian news outlet The Kyiv Independent, at least 34 people were killed and at least 117 were injured after Russia launched two ballistic missiles at Ukraine's northeastern city of Sumy on Sunday morning.

"Currently, 38 people are receiving treatment in medical facilities in Sumy following yesterday's Russian ballistic strike — among them, 9...more

Pennsylvania police arrested a 38-year-old man, who has since been charged with attempting to set an arson attack on Governor Josh Shapiro's residence. The suspect, identified as Cody Balmer from Harrisburg, was taken into custody and will face attempted homicide and aggravated arson charges, Reuters reported.

"Last night at about 2 AM, my family and I woke up to bangs on the door from the Pennsylvania State Police after an arsonist set fire to the Governor's Residence in Harrisburg," Shapiro wrote on X.

"The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire was on the scene, and while they worked to put out the fire, we were evacuated from the Residence safely by Pennsylvania State Police and assisted by Capitol Police," he added. "Thank God no one was injured, and the fire...more

The Oldest Christian Hymn Ever Found Is Being Sung Again after 1,800 Years

The Oldest Christian Hymn Ever Found Is Being Sung Again after 1,800 Years

An 1,800-year-old hymn, believed to be the oldest Christian song preserved with both words and musical notes, has emerged from the ruins of Oxyrhynchus, Egypt -- and into modern worship. The 53-word song is the focus of a new documentary, The First Hymn, and also the heart of a new contemporary song by Chris Tomlin and Ben Fielding of the same name.

The song, known in the academic world as P.Oxy 1786, was discovered on parchment more than a century ago but only recently turned into a modern song.

Dated to the 200s, it is the oldest known Christian hymn complete with its lyrics and musical notations. Although the Bible is filled with songs, the melodies that accompany them have been lost to history.

Australian historian John Dickson is the...more

SNL Faces Backlash after Mocking Jesus and Trump in Easter Themed Skit

SNL Faces Backlash after Mocking Jesus and Trump in Easter Themed Skit

Saturday Night Live sparked criticism over last weekend's skit featuring a parody of Jesus Christ and President Donald Trump. The long-running comedy show held a comedy sketch on its episode aired on April 12, which featured Mikey Day, dressed as Jesus in the temple, in reenacting the Biblical scene of Jesus driving out money changers from the temple. He is accompanied by Kenan Thompson, Andrew Dismukes, Sarah Sherman, Ego Nwodim, Emil Wakim, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow, and Jane Wickline as his disciples.

Shortly after, James Austin Johnson appears on the scene as Trump.

"Remind you of anyone?" he asked. "Wow, I also got rid of money last week, but instead of one temple, I did a whole country. Maybe even the globe. The money is gone."

"Hi, it's...more

Trump Easter Proclamation Remembers ‘the Sacrifice Jesus Christ Made on the Cross’

The White House launched its Holy Week observance this week with a proclamation from President Trump that recognizes “the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross” and that pledges to “defend the Christian faith” throughout society.

“Through His death, we are forgiven of our sins,” it reads. “Through His Resurrection, we have hope of eternal life. On Easter morning, the stone is rolled away, the tomb is empty, and light prevails over darkness -- signaling that death does not have the final word.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt had promised an “extraordinary” weeklong celebration of Holy Week, which also will include an Easter dinner on Wednesday and a worship service on Thursday. Franklin Graham, Greg Laurie and...more

State Department Urges Staff to Report Anti-Christian Bias during Biden Administration

The U.S. State Department recently issued a cable asking employees to report alleged anti-Christian bias that may have occurred during the Biden administration. As reported by CBS News, Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent the cable on Friday to all U.S. diplomatic missions asking staffers to report any such discrimination. Additionally, a government-wide task force on anti-Christian bias will investigate any reported allegations, and any possible culprits will be disciplined.

"The task force is soliciting examples of anti-religious bias, particularly from the past four years, where the Department targeted anyone for their religion, including discrimination, harassment, exclusion, disciplinary action, adverse security clearance determinations, or any other adverse action, or in...more

Kidnapped American Pastor Rescued in South Africa Is ‘Miraculously Unharmed’

The American pastor who was kidnapped during a prayer service at gunpoint in South Africa has been rescued. Missionary Josh Sullivan of Tennessee was rescued Tuesday during a multi-disciplinary law enforcement operation at a home in the province of Eastern Cape. Although three kidnappers were killed, Sullivan was rescued unharmed.

“As officers approached the house, they observed a vehicle on the premises,” a police statement said. “The suspects inside the vehicle, upon seeing law enforcement, allegedly attempted to flee and opened fire on the team.”

The officers returned fire, fatally wounding three suspects. Sullivan was found inside the same vehicle.

Will Smith Reflects on Finding ‘Only God Is Left’ after Fame and Fortune

Actor Will Smith opened up about his personal journey of self-discovery and faith in a recent podcast interview with Christian rapper Lecrae. During the interview, Smith shared that he had to learn to "trust himself and God" and acknowledged that he had felt an emptiness despite his fame and success, Premier Christian News reports.

Whereas buying things used to scratch an itch... to have had all the sex you want to have. How many more number-one movies do I need? How many more Grammys? The True Goodness of Good Friday

The True Goodness of Good Friday

good adj. better, best a) a general term of approval or commendation; b) suitable to a purpose; effective; c) producing favorable results; beneficial

The amazing thing about Good Friday is that it was – and is – part of the “good” declared by God at creation. “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good” (Genesis 1:31, NIV). The Fall was not good; sin, disobedience, and suffering are not good. But God’s purpose in creation and the redemptive drama that ensued were – and are – good.

Some would put God in the dock for placing such a burden on human life—that through our creation and giving us free will, He knew the suffering we would experience. What is less noticed is how God always knew of Good Friday. In the rapture of creation, the cross loomed large. Yes, there would be suffering, but none more so...more

Snoop Dogg Is Dropping Another Gospel Album, Saying ‘God Is Good’

Legendary hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg revealed this week his label will release a gospel album titled Altar Call honoring his late mother. "You heard it first. A gospel album," he said, announcing its release date: April 27.

"God is good. Won't He do it?"

The rapper's mother, Beverly Tate, passed away in October 2021 after a period of illness. Snoop Dogg frequently credited her with instilling in him a foundation of faith, strength, and love, often honoring her influence in interviews and on social media. The album's release date falls on her birthday, and her photo appears on the cover.

It will be his second gospel album, following 2018's Bible of Love.

"The spirit of my mother will forever live within me," he told Okayplayer about the new...more

Franklin Graham Delivers Easter Message from the Ashes of California Wildfires

Franklin Graham Delivers Easter Message from the Ashes of California Wildfires

Though the California wildfires are no longer front and center for mainstream media, the devastation is very front and center for many California residents. In addition, California is actually still burning in many locations, and there are quite a few hotspots as well, which are detailed on this map.

In the Old Testament book of Isaiah, chapter 61 is a Scripture that outlines some of the characteristics of Jesus’ ministry when He came to earth. Verse 3 specifically mentions God giving beauty for ashes, and the oil of joy for mourning. Many people will refer to this Scripture metaphorically when they have experienced loss, but many in California may likely be thinking of it physically, too, hopeful that Jesus is still somehow very involved in these ways...more

American Idol Judges Praise Contestant for ‘Interpreting the Word’

Season 23 of American Idol may look different than most, and not just due to the variety of powerhouse vocals and incredible backstories of the latest contestants. Some may say this is the most faith-filled season yet, and the judges are praising one contestant in particular for bringing “Church to the Beach.” This past week, Idol contestants traveled to Hawaii to perform on stage at Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa. Canaan James Hill, a 17-year-old aspiring pastor, stole the show with his powerful rendition of 1995’s “Glory to Glory to Glory” by Fred Hammond and Radical for Christ.

Upon arriving in Hawaii, Hill was dealing with some allergies, making him feel weaker than his normal self. However, the judges reported the complete opposite.

Easter Holiday Still Motivates High Church Attendance in America

Easter Holiday Still Motivates High Church Attendance in America

Many pastors would say that Easter is one of their most heavily attended church services. A couple of other church services that draw the crowds include Mother’s Day and Christmas. In fact, a Lifeway Research poll found that, in general, 90 percent of pastors would rank Easter as one of the top three for attendance. Right behind that was Christmas at 81 percent, and 51 percent of pastors said Mother’s Day was the third most attended church holiday.

“While many churches consider high attendance as something from their pre-pandemic past, seasonal changes have resumed,” Scott McConnell, executive director of Lifeway Research, said. “Church attendance is predictable again with periods of consistency in the fall and early spring, as well as holiday crowds at Christmas and Easter.”

Why...more

The World Mourns as Vatican Announces Death of Pope Francis

Pope Francis, the first Latin American Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, passed away Monday at the age of 88. The news was confirmed by the Vatican Monday morning, according to Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church.

"Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow, I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful...more

Pope Francis' cause of death was stroke and subsequent irreversible heart failure, Vatican says

Pope Francis' death Monday at the age of 88 comes after the Catholic leader experienced a number of health issues in recent years.

Francis died at 7:35 a.m. Monday at his residence, the Vatican said. In an statement released Monday, the Vatican said Francis died of stroke and subsequent irreversible heart failure.

The pope, who had part of one lung removed as a young man, long battled health problems and was especially prone to respiratory illnesses in the winter.

In July 2021, he spent 10 days in the hospital following intestinal surgery for a bowel narrowing. In March 2023, he was hospitalized for three days and received...more

Pope Francis used his last will and testament to detail his wishes for where he would like to be interred following his death.

The leader of the Catholic Church died Monday at the age of 88, just a day after celebrating Easter with a surprise appearance at St. Peter's Square. The Vatican said he died from a stroke that caused a coma and led to irreversible heart failure.

The Monday after Easter (2025)

The Monday after Easter (2025)

This is a blog with a very specific audience. I know it may exclude some of you, but it may be healthy for you to eavesdrop. This is for all the church planters and their volunteers on post-Easter Monday, struggling to make it from week-to-week, and for the leaders and members of established churches that are anything but “mega”—well below the 200 threshold in terms of average attendance.

I don’t know how Easter Sunday went for you, but I have a hunch.

It was bigger than normal but less than breakthrough. It was good, but not great. Your attendance was large but not staggering; it is worth being happy about but not writing home about. You are grateful to God, but now that Easter is over, there’s a bit of a letdown. You wanted so much more.

It was, in the end, a typical Easter...more

Christians Denied Access to Easter Services at Church of Holy Sepulchre in Israeli

Israeli forces have restricted Palestinian Christians' access to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem over Easter weekend, limiting the number of permits issued for Easter celebrations. Video footage posted online shows Israeli police clashing with Palestinian Christians who attempted to attend the church of the Holy Sepulchre. According to eyewitnesses, Israeli officers emptied the church of visitors and worshippers observing Holy Saturday, including those with special permits to attend.

"People are very afraid, and many will not risk attending the Easter processions anymore," Omar Haramy, who runs Sabeel, a Christian organization based in Jerusalem, told The Guardian.

"I will go to the celebrations on Holy Saturday because my family has been...more

Churches with Record Easter Attendance Report U.S. Is ‘on the Cusp of Spiritual Awakening’

From small congregations to megachurches, churches across the U.S. saw record Easter attendance Sunday -- the latest sign of what some see as a growing spiritual awakening. The reports coincide with a new Barna survey showing that belief in Jesus is on the rise in the United States, with 66 percent of adults saying they have made a personal commitment to Jesus that is still important in their life today -- a 12-point increase since 2022 and the highest recorded level in the poll since 2012.

"Record Breaking Attendance at our Easter Service today," reported Rosevine United Pentecostal Church of Bronson, Texas.

"We were blessed with record attendance today," shared the Church of Christ at Freewill in Gainsboro, Tenn.

Christianity Today Apologizes for Article Suggesting Jesus Was Crucified with Ropes, Not Nails

A Christianity Today editor is apologizing for an article that sparked a social media firestorm for implying that nails may not have been used in Jesus’ crucifixion. The controversial article, Was Jesus Crucified with Nails?, was posted the Monday of Holy Week and quoted Gordon College professor Jeffrey P. Arroyo García as suggesting ropes -- not nails -- may have been used by Roman soldiers. Although García had made the same argument in the spring issue of Biblical Archaeology Review, the Christianity Today article received far more attention.

The Christianity Today article did cite counter-evidence, including the fact that Jewish writer Josephus described the use of nails in Roman crucifixions. Even so, it was widely...more

Alabama Strikes Controversy as Schools Display Ten Commandments and Ban Pride Flags

Alabama lawmakers recently passed three bills that would require K-12 schools to display the Ten Commandments in entryways or classrooms, ban LGBT pride flags, and restrict discussions on gender identity and sexual orientation.

The bills, House Bill 178, House Bill 244, House Bill 67, also prohibit teachers from using preferred pronouns that differ from a student's biological sex and restrict minors from sharing overnight facilities with members of the opposite sex. All three bills now await Senate approval.

"This is about returning foundational principles to schools to be taught," Rep. Mark Gidley said, a Republican and former pastor who sponsored bill 178.

The American Civil Liberties Union strongly criticized the move,...more

60 Cardinals Meet to Discuss Next Steps after Pope Francis’ Death

About 60 cardinals gathered this week to initiate the process of electing a new pope following the death of Pope Francis. According to Zenit, the College of Cardinals gathered at the first General Congregation, an assembly held inside the New Synod Hall, to launch the process that would result in the election of a new pope. They reaffirmed their commitment to the Church's protocols during the sede vacante, which is considered to be the period between papacies.

Several key decisions were made during the assembly, including establishing funeral arrangements, drawing lots for the commission that assists the Camerlengo, and pausing all beatification ceremonies until the election of the next pope.

As Crosswalk Headlines previously reported, Pope Francis passed away on...more

Pope Francis I’s Death Triggers Historic Shift in Global Catholic Leadership

Pope Francis I’s Death Triggers Historic Shift in Global Catholic Leadership

On Monday, April 21, Pope Francis I died in Vatican City in Rome. On Easter, in defiance of medical advice, he gave a public speech before meeting with U.S. Vice President JD Vance. Though his staff described his health as improving last week, at 88 years old and struggling with lung ailments, his passing was not unexpected.

Francis was born in 1936 to an Italian immigrant family in Argentina. Given the name Jorge Mario Bergoglio, he embodied a number of firsts. He was the first pope to have worked as a nightclub bouncer, the first pope born in the Americas, and the first pope since the eighth century to have not been born in Europe. He was the first Jesuit pope and the first to accept a name in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. With the resignation of Pope Benedict...more

How the American Revolution Was Rooted in God’s Truth

How the American Revolution Was Rooted in God’s Truth

250 years ago this month, on Lexington Green in Massachusetts, “the shot heard round the world” was fired, and the American Revolution began. At dawn, in a common area not far from Boston, a little over 70 colonial militiamen faced down a much larger number of British regular troops. After a brief stand-off where an army officer declared, “Throw down your arms! Ye villains, ye rebels,” the locals refused to disperse. Instead, someone fired their weapon. Though to this day, nobody knows how many Americans were dead or dying when it was over.

A few hours later, a force of over 200 Redcoats were confronted by nearly 400 angry colonials at North Bridge. This time it was the army’s turn to retreat. Three British soldiers died at the bridge and, over the next 12...more

First Christian Medical School in 40 Years Opens in Nashville

A new Christian medical school has opened in Nashville, Tennessee, marking the first time in over 40 years that such a school has opened in the southern state. The school, Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine at Belmont University, focuses on teaching future doctors a "whole person" model of healthcare, emphasizing servant leadership and compassionate care that takes into account patients' social, spiritual, and emotional needs. Currently, about 50 students are finishing its inaugural school year, which is good news given that they can contribute to a workforce facing severe shortages.

“I call them the fabulous 50,” Tanu Rana, a microbiologist and immunologist on the new faculty, said. “I love them dearly, and I’ve really enjoyed every second with them.”

Max Lucado Gets Tattoo to Mark 50 Years of Salvation, Saying Jesus ‘Changed My Life’

Well-known pastor and author Max Lucado celebrated the 50th anniversary of his salvation in recent days by getting inked with a tattoo—complete with a Greek word straight from Scripture. The teaching pastor at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, and the author of such books as He Chose the Nails and Anxious for Nothing, Lucado posted images of his new tattoo on his Instagram page as he shared his testimony and urged his social media followers to accept Christ.

“I’m celebrating the golden anniversary of God’s great grace in my life. 50 years ago this spring, grace found me,” he wrote. “My testimony is interwoven with my favorite word in the Bible. On the cross Christ proclaimed, ‘It is finished!’ (John 19:30) In...more

John Piper Reads Prayer Written by AI, Then Asks: Is This True Praise?

Author and pastor John Piper read a remarkably well-crafted prayer penned by artificial intelligence during a conference sermon this week, then asked the audience to consider: Is it true biblical praise?

The founder of Desiring God made the comments while addressing The Gospel Coalition’s TGC25 conference in Indianapolis as he preached from Ephesians 1.

“We exist and will always exist to the praise” of God, Piper said, before posing a question: What is praise?

“It is not mere words,” he said, citing Jesus’s remarks in Matthew 15:8-9, “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me.”

To laughter, Piper said he asked ChatGPT to compose a prayer.

“I typed in,...more

North Carolina Church Fights to Protect Afghan Christian Refugees from Deportation

Members of the Church of the Apostles in Raleigh, North Carolina, are urging the Trump administration to not deport nearly two dozen Christian refugees from Afghanistan who were ordered to leave the United States within days.

"We've been advocating with members of Congress and senators," Julie Tisdale, a seminary student who attends Church of the Apostles in Raleigh, told The Christian Post in an interview. "We've had some conversations with the staff who work on immigration issues in those offices. So in terms of advocacy, I would say that's been the big thing as well as some media stuff."

Tisdale also addressed the matter in an op-ed published to The Christian Post last week, noting that Afghan Christians who attended her church were...more

New Study Reveals the Real Reason We Don’t Read Anymore

New Study Reveals the Real Reason We Don’t Read Anymore

In 1170, a monk in Normandy penned these words: “A monastery without a library [sine armario] is like a castle without an armory [sine armamentario]. Our library is our armory.” This was certainly the conviction of the apostle Paul, who even from his prison cell in Rome implored Timothy to be sure to bring him his books (II Timothy 4:13). Yet for most people, including Christians, reading remains mostly aspirational in nature.

A recent NPR/Ipsos survey found that most Americans really want to read more books. And when we read, we enjoy it. It’s even something we would put in the “want to get better at” camp. We just don’t. It simply isn’t a priority.

For example, 82% of the respondents thought reading was a useful way to learn about the world. 76% said reading was...more

The Manufactured Consensus Around Trans ‘Medicine’

The Manufactured Consensus Around Trans ‘Medicine’

A question that ought to haunt the Western world is how, over the last decade, an obviously unscientific claim—that men can become women and vice versa—birthed an anti-scientific movement that still, somehow, won the endorsement of virtually the entire scientific and medical community in the developed world? Within a few short years, nearly every association involved in healthcare affirmed not only that a person can be “transgender,” but also a litany of ghoulish, harmful procedures that were called healthcare.

At least part of the answer to this gnawing question is that the endorsements were the result of close ties between medical groups and radical gender activists. As The Daily Wire recently reported, according to findings by the watchdog group, the American Accountability Foundation,...more

Why the Anglo World Is Rejecting Liberty

Why the Anglo World Is Rejecting Liberty

Earlier this year, it appeared as if the United Kingdom would adopt a “two-tiered” sentencing law, in which members of some minority groups would receive lesser sentences than others for the same crimes. In practice, this would have meant that the more white, male, or Christian someone is, the tougher the judge is instructed to be. While the Sentencing Council, which provides guidance for courts in Britain and Wales, has withdrawn the ruling, Aayan Hirsi Ali is correct in saying that it amounted to “[n]ormalising racism” and was “[c]ompletely outrageous.”

The nations sometimes referred to as the Anglosphere–the U.K., Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the U.S.–have traditionally been at the forefront of liberties of speech, conscience, assembly, and religion....more

Roman Catholic faithful began visiting the tomb of Pope Francis on Sunday, filing past the simple white tomb inside St. Mary Major Basilica in Rome a day after he was bade farewell.

A single white rose was placed on the tomb that said "Franciscus" – the pope's name in Latin – inside the Santa Maria Maggiore, where the late pontiff would pray after returning from his trips abroad.

Rosario Correale, from Salerno, Italy, was among those visiting the tomb. He said he experienced "great emotion" at witnessing...more

What the Shroud of Turin Reveals about Jesus and Why It Still Matters

What the Shroud of Turin Reveals about Jesus and Why It Still Matters

One of the most hotly debated archeological finds from the time when Christ walked the earth is the Shroud of Turin. The Bible states that after Jesus was crucified, He was wrapped in linen clothes (John 19:40, KJV). The Greek word for clothes in this scripture can also be interpreted as “sheet,” according to The New Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible.

What Is the Shroud of Turin?
This “sheet” has an impression in it of the front and back of the body of a crucified man, which many believe is an imprint of the actual body of Jesus, although Jesus’ deceased body has never been found. The fact that His body has never been found is extremely significant. It suggests that Jesus physically died and then truly rose from the dead. No other religion can claim that its founder...more

At the end of his sermon on Sunday, Jakes told his congregation that the transition in leadership is in light of his heart attack that took place last November. He had also recently filed a defamation lawsuit against a man who accused him of sexual assault.

"I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me and you be sheep without a shepherd," Jakes told his congregants.

The Ethics of Brainless ‘Spare Bodies’

The Ethics of Brainless ‘Spare Bodies’

The recent debates over in vitro fertilization and surrogacy have taught us that most Christians aren’t prepared with answers for what’s ahead. And that means we will be in even more trouble with crazier and more dystopian-sounding technology, which is surely on the way. If we do not embrace a robust theology of what it means to be human that includes the design and inherent goodness of the body, we’ll have no idea whether to reject, redeem, or participate in the innovations.

Just recently, an article in the MIT Technology Review explored growing human bodies without brains or consciousness in order to harvest their organs for transplant. According to the authors, who are three researchers at Stanford, the ability to create “spare bodies” for parts may be closer than we think. In fact, it’s close...more

Our Own Personal Jesus

Our Own Personal Jesus

In 1989, the electronic music band Depeche Mode had their biggest hit: “Personal Jesus.” It sounded like a sardonic twist on authentic faith, musing about living life “second best,” but no worries, you can rest assured that “your own personal Jesus” will be a forgiver. You can “reach out, touch faith,” have someone “hear your prayers... someone who cares” because you have “your own personal Jesus.”

Songwriter Martin Gore said that it was meant to be a song “about being a Jesus for somebody else, someone to give you hope and care.”

Now, in 2025, there is little doubt how the song would be interpreted.

According to sociologist Landon Schnabel we are experiencing a time of “individualization,” which he describes as “a phenomenon in which people increasingly craft their...more

Cardinal Angelo Becciu Bows Out of Papal Conclave, Citing Loyalty to Late Pope Francis

Italian Cardinal Angelo Becciu, who was previously convicted of embezzlement and fraud, has announced that he will not participate in the upcoming conclave to elect a new pope following the death of Pope Francis last week. Becciu, who was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in jail by a Vatican court in December 2023 after Pope Francis accused him of embezzlement, denies all wrongdoing and is free pending an appeal.

"Having at heart the good of the Church ... I have decided to obey, as I always have, the will of Pope Francis and to not enter the conclave, still remaining convinced of my innocence," said the cardinal.

According to Premier Christian News, Francis, who died on April 21, had previously stripped Becciu of his senior Vatican job and associated...more

New Study Reveals Abortion Pill Harms 1 in 10 Women, Far Exceeding FDA Claims

A landmark new study could shift public perception of the abortion pill -- and, critics hope, lead to tighter regulations. The study of 865,727 women who were prescribed the abortion pill from 2017 to 2023 found that 10.93 percent of them experienced sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or another serious adverse event within 45 days of use.

The 10.93 percent is a 22-fold increase over the 0.5 percent reported in clinical trials cited by the FDA and the manufacturer Danco involving nearly 31,000 participants. The drug at the center of the controversy is mifepristone, marketed under the brand name Mifeprex.

The new study, released by the Ethics & Public Policy Center, was based on an insurance claims database. It is the largest-known study of...more

Bible Use Is on the Rise in America, and Millennials Are Leading the Way

Bible usage is on the rise in the United States, and it's being driven by a generation that many have counted out -- Millennials. That's according to the latest data from the American Bible Society's 2025 State of the Bible report, which found that Bible use and Bible engagement -- two terms that gauge different levels of practice -- are growing in the U.S. Prior to this year's report, Bible use had been on the decline, from 40 percent in 2022 to 39 percent in 2023 and to 38 percent in 2024. However, according to the latest report, Bible use rose to 41 percent, a number that represents 10 million more American adults reading the Bible, according to the American Bible Society.

Millennials -- those in their late 20s, 30s and early 40s -- are leading the way. A total of 39 percent...more

Archaeological Discoveries That Support Scripture’s Truth

Archaeological Discoveries That Support Scripture’s Truth

The entire Bible, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, is the written Word of God, fully true and completely without error. From King David to Jacob’s well, various historical accounts from the Bible have come to life through archaeological evidence that continues to be unearthed. The Tel Dan Stele, or stone slab, contains an inscription that most scholars agree to read, “House of David.” Discovered in Northern Israel in 1993, the slab was dated to the 8th or 9th century B.C., which is a little over one hundred years after the time King David of the Bible is said to have lived.

The slab is the first known historical relic to mention David. Additionally, according to the Armstrong Institute of Biblical Archaeology, “the text on the Tel Dan Stele records the deaths of kings...more

Christian Elders Reject Sexual Misconduct Findings against Dr. Michael Brown

A group of Christian elders has rejected the findings of the private investigation by Firefly, which concluded that Line of Fire ministry founder and radio host Dr. Michael Brown had engaged in inappropriate behavior with two women. The report, released earlier this month, revealed that Brown had an inappropriate relationship with former Fire School of Ministry member Sarah Monk, whom he had previously said was like a daughter to him, as well as with a married woman who was part of his church but has since passed away.

Actress Kimberly Elise, known for her roles in "The Manchurian Candidate" and other films, recently shared her story of coming to faith in Jesus Christ and leaving behind new-age practices.

"We didn't go to church, we didn't study the Bible," Elise told CBN News regarding her upbringing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. "We were raised with Christian principles. However, I knew at a young age — 'There's something I'm missing.'"

"I was going to church and got baptized when I was 16, and, unfortunately, I didn't have the benefit of any discipleship, any development, any real understanding of what it truly meant to be a follower of Jesus," she added. Trump Establishes Religious Liberty Commission to Combat Threats to Faith

President Trump commemorated the National Day of Prayer on Thursday by establishing a new commission protecting religious liberty and telling a Rose Garden audience that religion is essential for a flourishing nation. Surrounded by religious and political leaders, Trump signed an executive order establishing the Religious Liberty Commission, which the White House said would "safeguard and promote America's founding principle of religious freedom."

"We're bringing back religion in our country, and we're bringing it back quickly and strongly," Trump said at the ceremony. "Because for America to be a great nation, we must always be one nation under God."

The commission will, according to the White House, produce a comprehensive report on the 1) foundations of...more

Christians gathered on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., to read the Bible for 90 continuous hours, stressing the importance of exposing the public to God's Word and reminding the nation of its founding principles. The event, called Seedline International, started on Saturday and continued through Wednesday, aims to bring attention back to the nation's legislators and the Word of God.

According to Keith Davidson, the founder of Seedline International, at least 75 people stopped to listen to the Bible reading outside the Capitol building on Monday.

Are Any Christian Jockeys Racing in the 2025 Kentucky Derby?

The 151st Kentucky Derby is scheduled to take place this Saturday, May 3rd, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, as a few faith-based jockeys will be partaking in the annual horse racing event. Mike Smith, a two-time Derby winner, hopes to win his third Derby win 20 years after his first victory in 2005. He also won the Triple Crown in 2018.

A professing Catholic, Smith told Today’s Catholic in 2019 about how his faith has played a role in his racing career.

“It can be a dangerous sport. I don’t pray to win; I just pray for safety,” Smith said during a phone interview at the time.

Smith also spoke with The Record, archdiocesan newspaper of Louisville regarding his faith in the Lord and his successes.

Rising Holocaust Denial Sparks Concern over Truth in the Digital Age

Rising Holocaust Denial Sparks Concern over Truth in the Digital Age

During the early days of internet debates, a lawyer proposed “Godwin’s Law” (named after himself) to describe how online discussions tend to escalate. “As an online discussion continues,” he said, “the probability of a reference or comparison to Hitler or Nazis approaches one.” In other words, when people run out of arguments, they resort to comparing their opponents with the evilest person imaginable.

Godwin’s law has held up in the decades since and now applies to political discourse and campus protests. A common trick the last few election cycles is to call anyone to the right of Barak Obama, “literally Hitler.” Activists on college campuses have successfully stifled debate without an argument, by simply referring to opponents as Nazis....more

U.S. Deportation Leaves Persecuted Christian Women in Legal and Spiritual Limbo

U.S. Deportation Leaves Persecuted Christian Women in Legal and Spiritual Limbo

Back in February, the persecution watchdog organization International Christian Concern reported on a group of Iranian Christian women who had crossed the southern border into the United States. After seeking asylum as victims of religious persecution, they were deported to Panama. After a brief detainment, the women were released with permission to stay in the country for up to 90 days. Unless their pleas for sanctuary are granted there, they could end up back in Iran, facing the harsh punishment of the Islamist regime.

Artemis Ghasemzadeh became the face of the group. She became a Christian in 2019 after a brief trip to Turkey. As the New York Times described,

Converting was colossally risky. While Christians born into the faith are free to practice,...more

A Revival... or a Moment?

A Revival... or a Moment?

If you read the headlines of late, we are either in the early stages of a fresh, new spiritual revival or continuing to experience the malaise of spiritual decline.

Here are the revival headlines:

According to a Bible Society/YouGov survey, there has been a 50% increase in church attendance in the U.K. over the last six years (between 2018 and 2024).

A new Barna study, part of the State of the Church 2025, has found a “groundswell of commitment to Jesus over the last four years.” According to Barna’s latest data, “66% of all U.S. adults say they have made a personal commitment to Jesus... that marks a 12-percentage-point increase since 2021.” This shift, they report, “is not only statistically significant—it may be the clearest indication of spiritual renewal in the United...more

Cardinals attend the sixth Novemdiales mass held for the late Pope Francis, in St. Peters Basilica, May 1, 2025 in Rome. The Vatican is preparing for the process to elect a new Pope, known as the Conclave, which must begin within 15 to 20 days of the Pope's death. Antonio Masiello/Getty Images

Vatican workers installed the simple stove in the Sistine Chapel where ballots will be burned during the upcoming conclave to elect a new pope, as jockeying continued outside over who among the cardinals is in the running.

The Holy See released a video Saturday of the preparations for the May 7 conclave, which included installing the stove and...more

Study Finds Living Together before Marriage Increases Risk of Divorce

Study Finds Living Together before Marriage Increases Risk of Divorce

Even as the American marriage rate has steadily declined, the cohabitation rate has steadily grown. According to 2019 Pew Research study, more Americans have cohabitated at some point than have been married. Fifteen times more couples live together outside of marriage today than in 1960. Rather than being an option among many, cohabitation is a cultural norm when it comes to romantic relationships, one that reflects the belief that marriage is “just a piece of paper,” and all that matters for a couple is that they “live together and love each other.”

In truth, cohabitation is a disastrous way to form a household. Recently on X, pro-life author Lila Rose highlighted the facts about “shacking up”:

According to research, couples who cohabitate before marriage...more

Vatican marks final day of mourning for Pope Francis before conclave begins

Vatican marks final day of mourning for Pope Francis before conclave begins

Sunday marked the end of a formal mourning period in the Catholic Church for Pope Francis, who died April 21 after 12 years in the papacy. He was 88. The pontiff's death catalyzed an extensive list of traditions dating back centuries, one of which is Novemdiales, a nine-day period of mourning that began with his funeral in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican.

The schedule for Novemdiales included daily masses inside St. Peter's Basilica, each presided over by a different cardinal and dedicated to the late pope. Sunday's mass was headed by Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, a senior deacon in the College of Cardinals that serves as advisers to the pope and steers the process of electing a...more

New Study Finds Married Parents Are the Happiest Americans

New Study Finds Married Parents Are the Happiest Americans

Is happiness a good reason to have children? Well, yes and no. There’s plenty of evidence that married parents are happy. But “happiness” isn’t something most people find by seeking it. It’s a byproduct of living a meaningful—and therefore often a difficult—life. Recently, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Chappell Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, remarked on a comedy podcast that in her view, parenthood is pure misery:

“All of my friends who have kids are in hell,” she told the host. “I actually don’t know anyone who’s happy and has children at this age.”

Speaking of those who have 3-year-olds and under, the singer said: “I literally have not met anyone [like that] who’s happy, anyone who has like light in their eyes,...more

Near-Death Cases Reveal Spiritual Realities

Near-Death Cases Reveal Spiritual Realities

Did you know there have been more than 900 scholarly studies of near-death experiences over the last 40 years published in scientific and medical journals? That’s a lot of research.

A near-death experience (NDE) can occur when someone has experienced clinical death, and then, after just a few moments, is resuscitated. During those few seconds, or even minutes, they often experience unbelievable things.

According to Dr. Raymond Moody, who has written several books on the subject, there are a number of common denominators present among those who have had an NDE. For example, they say that they experience the sensation of being lifted out of their body and able to look back down on themselves, seeing and hearing what is going on. Then they say that they move toward a dark tunnel, and at...more

Trump Faces Backlash from Catholic Community with AI Image of Himself as Pope

Trump Faces Backlash from Catholic Community with AI Image of Himself as Pope

An AI-generated image of President Trump as Pope showed up on President Trump's social media account and the official White House account on Friday after he had joked a few days prior that he'd like to be the next Pope. When the image went viral, it sparked one of two reactions: amusement at what some might call gallows humor, or disgust from those who saw it as being in poor taste, and possibly the thing of nightmares. In true Trump fashion, there was no in-between.

Trump's Interest in Papacy
"I'd like to be pope," Trump told USA Today reporters and others outside the White House last week. "That would be my number one choice."
South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham jokingly chimed in on his X account, which was picked up by USA...more

Israel Approves Plan to Seize and Occupy All of Gaza

Israel Approves Plan to Seize and Occupy All of Gaza

Israel is intensifying its swift efforts to gain the remainder of the Gaza Strip. Plans were approved on Monday morning by Cabinet members as an Israeli Military Chief called up reserve soldiers that numbered in the tens of thousands, according to Military.com.

The plan includes the military increasing and widening its presence in Gaza while also pushing civilians to southern Gaza. Israel intends to begin a new humanitarian aid program for them there in the coming weeks while also being able to fight against any Hamas terrorists who are still in northern Gaza in a more thorough way, according to The Jerusalem Post.

This plan was proposed back in 2024, but the Biden administration and various IDF members objected to the plan at the time. Since the Trump...more

Pastor Michael Todd Slammed for Distracting Outfit during Sermon on Faith

Pastor Michael Todd Slammed for Distracting Outfit during Sermon on Faith

Oklahoma megachurch pastor Michael Todd faced online backlash for wearing what appeared to be something women would wear, which distracted viewers from his message. During a sermon on Sunday, Todd spoke about how important it was for Christians to not waste their faith, The Christian Post reports.

"If you downgrade or devalue what faith can produce, you'll never use it right. One of the biggest epidemics in the body of Christ right now is people use their faith wrong," Todd said in his message that opened a new series called "MUSTARD: The Seed That Can Change Everything."

As an example of wasted faith, Todd said, "I'm believing God that when I go take this test, I don't have diabetes." He went on to say that the congregation wouldn't have to waste their...more

Doctor Fired for Opposing Gender Treatments Wins $1.6 Million in Free Speech Case

Doctor Fired for Opposing Gender Treatments Wins $1.6 Million in Free Speech Case

At some point, the world must reckon with how, over the last decade, the obviously unscientific claim that men can become women and vice versa birthed an anti-scientific movement that won the endorsement of much of the scientific and medical community in the developed world. A major part of the story is that dissent was silenced.

Last week, the University of Louisville agreed to pay nearly $1.6 million in damages and attorneys’ fees to Dr. Allan Josephson. For nearly 15 years, Dr. Josephson led the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Louisville, helping it to become a nationally recognized program. In 2017, in a panel discussion hosted by the Heritage Foundation, Dr. Josephson spoke out about how minors were being treated for gender dysphoria. As he...more

Christian Leaders Call for Global Prayer as India-Pakistan Conflict Escalates

Christian Leaders Call for Global Prayer as India-Pakistan Conflict Escalates

Christian leaders throughout the world are urging the global church to pray for peace as tensions between India and Pakistan inch closer to all-out war. The decades-old rivalry between the two nuclear-armed countries reignited in recent days following a deadly terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that left more than two dozen civilians dead. India blamed Pakistan-based militants and launched a series of airstrikes within Pakistan on Wednesday, targeting what it described as terrorist infrastructure. The strikes killed 26 people and injured 46 others, according to the Associated Press.

Pakistan labeled the attack an “act of war.”

“Pakistan has every right to give a robust response to this act of war imposed by India, and a strong response is...more

Supreme Court Sides with Trump in Reviving Ban on Trans-Identifying Military Members

Supreme Court Sides with Trump in Reviving Ban on Trans-Identifying Military Members

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the way for the Trump administration to enforce a ban on transgender-identifying individuals in the military, pausing an order by a lower court that had blocked the new Department of Defense rule from going into effect.

At issue was a Department of Defense rule that reversed a Biden administration policy allowing trans-identifying persons to serve. That Biden rule had overturned a policy in Trump’s first term that largely prohibited such individuals in the military. The Obama administration was the first to issue guidance permitting individuals who identify as the opposite sex to serve, although that policy did not go fully into effect before he left office.

The Supreme Court’s order broke down along...more

Sistine Chapel Is Sealed as Cardinals Prepare to Elect New Pope in 2025 Conclave

Over 133 cardinals dressed in red robes processed into the Sistine chapel as choir sang, organ music played. Then the doors were locked behind them. During the conclave they are prohibited from leaving or having any contact with the outside world so they could focus on praying and listening for the guidance of God regarding who should become the new pope, according to NBC News.

Pope Francis made his recommendations regarding his replacement prior to his passing; 108 were specifically named. Of those, five have risen to the top and are being highlighted.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin is 70 years old and considered a career diplomat with a global vision. He presently holds the position of the Vatican’s secretary of state.

Cardinal Peter Erdo is 72...more

Why All Christians Should Care Who the Next Pope Is

Why All Christians Should Care Who the Next Pope Is

Today the College of Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church begins the conclave to elect a new pope. While the results matter a great deal to Catholics, they also matter for Protestants and the Orthodox. Despite the significant and irreconcilable doctrinal differences—on the role of Mary, the sacraments, Scripture, salvation, and the fundamental nature of the Church—all Christians should pray for God to intervene in who replaces Francis as pope.

The brilliant theologian J.I. Packer once observed that we are justified by faith, not by believing in justification by faith. And so, Christians across faith lines can embrace what Chuck Colson called “an ecumenism of the trenches,” which takes the forms of defending life, promoting robust dialogue, and where possible, working to protect...more

Lessons from My Friend’s Execution in Evin Prison

Lessons from My Friend’s Execution in Evin Prison

This year, more than ever, it’s impossible not to think about the execution of my best friend, Shirin Alamhooli, on May 9, 2010. I met Shirin in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison, where I had been arrested and sentenced to death by hanging because of converting to Christianity, a “crime” the Islamic regime calls “apostasy” and which carries the death penalty. I was arrested in March 2009. Shirin had already been in prison for some time as a political Kurdish prisoner.

As a Christian, I had many people advocating for my freedom from the first day, and miraculously, I was released that November, and then came to America, where I have become a proud citizen. Unfortunately, neither the world nor the terrorist Islamic regime cared about the life of a 28-year-old Kurdish woman. Shirin spent...more

Pope Leo XIV Makes History as First American Leader of the Catholic Church

Pope Leo XIV Makes History as First American Leader of the Catholic Church

For the first time in its history, the Catholic Church will be led by an American-born Pope. The College of Cardinals elected on Thursday as the Church's new leader 69-year-old American Robert Prevost, who took the name of Pope Leo XIV and told the cheering crowd in St. Peter's Square he is "always seeking peace and justice, seeking to work with men and women who are faithful to Jesus Christ without fear to proclaim the gospel."

Leo was elected on the third ballot and is considered a consensus candidate.

"God loves us. God loves everyone," he said through a translator. "Evil will not prevail. We are all in the hands of God. Therefore, without fear, united hand in hand with God and amongst ourselves, let us go forward. We are the disciples of Christ. Christ...more

Read Pope Leo XIV's first address from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica

In his first address Thursday, Pope Leo XIV spoke of peace, building bridges and helping people who are suffering.

The themes of his speech seemed to suggest he would have continuity with his predecessor Pope Francis, whom Leo XIV thanked in his remarks.

Standing on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica with a large crowd of people in St. Peter's square, Leo XIV spoke in both Italian and Spanish. Here's a translation of his speech:

Peace be with you all!

Dearest brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the Risen Christ, the good shepherd who gave his life for the flock of God. I too would like this greeting of peace to enter...more

Is “Baby Optimization” Unscientific and Immoral?

Is Baby Optimization Unscientific and Immoral?

Should we “optimize” human beings? That was the question Anna Louise Sussman addressed recently in The New York Times, describing a new process that allows fertility services to bring only the healthiest, least disease-prone children into the world. Polygenic embryo screening uses AI to find genes with statistical correlations to disorders such as diabetes, autism, heart disease, cancer, and schizophrenia.

The founder of one company that offers this “service” told Sussman her motivation came from watching her own mother lose her vision to a genetic condition. To help others avoid this fate, her company offers parents “a risk profile on each embryo’s propensity for conditions.” In addition to the altruism, she also hopes to change how baby-making is done. “Sex is for fun,” this founder said,...more

The papacy of Leo XIV begins

The papacy of Leo XIV begins

At Mass on Sunday, the 267th pope called for peace in ongoing conflicts, and wished Happy Mother's Day. It represents both continuity and change for this two-thousand-year-old church, now – for the first time – led by an American pope.

Dressed in those storied papal vestments is a tennis-loving, Wordle-playing, White Sox fan from Chicago, a former math major at Villanova University who's now pontiff – Pope Leo XIV.

Ahead of the conclave that selected Robert Prevost, there was the scramble for clues from cardinals. When we asked Cardinal Jean-Paul...more
