Louisiana Pastor's Son Killed in Shooting outside His Girlfriend's House

A Louisiana pastor is mourning the loss of his son and namesake after he was killed in a shooting last week.

On August 20, 20-year-old Orin Grant Jr. was shot and killed near his father's church, St. Paul Baptist Church in Gretna city, where he played drums every Sunday.

"What could I have done better or more?" Grant Sr., who runs an outreach program to reduce street violence in his community, asked. "Now I have to live the rest of my life without my son," he added.

"My son was by his girlfriend's house. To my knowledge, he was lured out of the house. In the backyard of his girlfriend's house. He was shot by two individuals multiple times," the pastor explained, according to NBC News affiliate WDSU.

"He was shot by two individuals multiple times," Grant added, The Christian Post reports.

The suspects in the shooting remain at large. Grant encouraged the shooters to seek forgiveness through Christ, despite killing his son.

"I want to say to the perpetrators, violence is not the answer. The negative use of weapons is not the answer. God renders forgiveness. Find peace with God," Grant said.

Hours after the incident occurred, a 23-year-old man, Xevion Davis of Conroe, Texas, was also killed in a shooting just several blocks from where Grant Jr. was murdered. As reported by nola.com, an autopsy concluded that Davis had been shot in the head.

It is unclear if the shootings are linked, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The shootings come following a separate incident in Milwaukee, where church congregants were caught in the crossfire of a shooting outside the church building.

"Upon them coming out of the church, a car pulled right here and began to fire at another car that was behind them. There was a massive shooting right here," Bishop Henry Kilpatrick of Reformation Church of Holiness told WISN 12 News.

"I began to push the people back on inside, and tell them to hit the floor, get down on the floor, and they got down on the floor."

No churchgoers were injured.
