Christian leaders in the country are warning that while the overturning of Roe v. Wade was a major win for pro-lifers, advocates are "losing the war for the hearts and minds of Americans."

Warren Cole Smith, president of Ministry Watch and former vice president for the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, said the "battle" was won in the courts, but the "war" is ongoing to gain more believers in the pro-life movement.

Smith wrote in a received opinion piece that one reason the movement is losing support is its affiliation with politicians that "most Americans consider to be immoral and obnoxious, who claim to be pro-life to consummate political transactions."

He said that while former President Donald Trump did place Supreme Court nominees that were pro-life, funding for abortion facilities, such as Planned Parenthood, skyrocketed.

"During the Trump administration, funding for Planned Parenthood reached an all-time high, and Planned Parenthood's private fundraising more than doubled. Planned Parenthood's annual budget (about $2 billion) now dwarfs the combined budget of all 3,000 pregnancy resource centers combined."

He said a grassroots effort has previously been successful in the pro-life movement.

"Over the decades (pregnancy resource centers) have saved millions of babies and helped millions of women. They were also quietly changing hearts and minds. According to the Gallup organization, by the early 2000s, a majority of Americans thought abortion was morally wrong. In 2010, the percentage of Americans who thought abortion should be legal in all circumstances was just 21%. That means a full 79% of Americans favored some form of abortion restrictions.

"But in the past decade, the numbers have changed dramatically. Today, the number of Americans who think abortion should be legal in all circumstances has risen to 35%."

March Szoch, the director of the Center for Human Dignity at the Family Research Council, also wrote an opinion piece for The Christian Post, saying upcoming elections will feature abortion rights at the forefront.

"Democrats are going to make a woman's right to choose' the cornerstone of their 2024 election strategy, and significant donors like George Soros and Jeff Bezos will continue to fund pro-abortion candidates and ballot initiatives far from their home states," she said.

"Still, the pro-life movement cannot be disheartened — and certainly cannot back down. We aren't fighting for a hypothetical or an ideal. We are fighting for people's lives."

Szoch wrote that many Americans have become "numb" to the reality of abortion.

"We need to shake people out of the illusion that Democratic euphemisms like ‘women's rights,' ‘reproductive freedom,' and ‘choice' mean anything other than the right to kill an innocent human being, and we need to drive away the fear that abortion is a solution."
