U.S. Army Veteran and Fox News host Pete Hegseth, who Trump nominated to lead the Department of Defense, proclaimed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior during his Senate confirmation hearing Tuesday morning.

"All Glory, regardless of the outcome, belongs to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His grace and mercy abounds each day. MAY HIS WILL BE DONE," Hegseth said in this opening statement.

He explained that this prayer is something that he and his wife, Jenny, pray every morning.

Hegseth's hearing, which is still ongoing at the time of this writing, began Tuesday morning after hearings for Veterans' Affairs Secretary nominee Doug Collins and Interior Secretary nominee Doug Burgum were postponed due to background checks, Fox News reports.

After being nominated to become Trump's Department of Defense, Hegseth endured widespread support and criticism leading up to his confirmation hearing.

At least four protestors were escorted out of the hearing room Tuesday morning after interrupting Hegseth's opening remarks outlining his plan to lead the Department of Defense.

Meanwhile, about 200 former Navy SEALS marched in Washington D.C. to support Hesgeth's confirmation including Reps. Morgan Luttrell, R-Texas, Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., and Eli Crane, R-Ariz. The group also served members who worked with Hegseth in the Army National Guard.

The march began at the Vietnam Memorial and headed toward the Capitol.

During the hearing, Hegseth stressed that the U.S. needs to modernize nuclear capabilities amid growing threats from Russia and China.

"Ultimately, our deterrence, our survival is reliant upon the capability, the perception, and the reality of the capability of our nuclear triad," he said in a response to a question from Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Neb.Fischer. "We have to invest in its modernization for the defense of our nation."

"We also have an ally in our incoming commander in chief in President Donald Trump, who has spoken about these things, understands the power and strength of nuclear deterrence will not advance," Hegseth said.

He was also grilled by Democrat Senators on a 2017 assault allegation, a claim that Hegseth denies, drinking habits, his views on women in combat, as well as breaking his marriage vows– with his wife seated just behind him.

Meanwhile, Republican Senators, including Markwayne Mullin and Sen. Roger Wicker, defended Hegseth and accused Democrats of hypocrisy.

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. told Fox News that he predicts Hegseth will be confirmed and is doing a "great job" at his confirmation process.

"He's doing a great job. He's explaining basically he's going to talk about... he's talking about what he's going to do to make this the most lethal military in the world," Scott told Fox News Digital's Julia Johnson.

"He's going to be confirmed as the next secretary of defense, and he's going to do a great job," he said.

In a post on X, Vice President-elect JD Vance accused Democrats of 'grandstanding' in the hearing.

"I find this grandstanding from Senate Democrats over the Hegseth confirmation perplexing," Vance wrote Tuesday morning.

"We haven't won a war in three decades, and we have a major recruitment challenge," he added. "Hegseth is assuredly NOT more of the same, and that's good!"

Hegseth's confirmation hearing comes less than a week away before Inauguration Day on Jan. 20, when Trump will be sworn into office as the nation's 47th office. Other high-profile names nominated to serve in Trump's cabinet will undergo Senate hearings this week, including Pam Bond (Attorney General), South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (Homeland Security), Sean Duffy (Transportation Department), John Ratcliffe (CIA), and Senator Marco Rubio, R-Fla., (State Department).

Meanwhile, other Trump picks, such as Tulsi Gabbard (Office of the Director of National Intelligence), Robert F. Kennedy (Health and Human Services Department), Elise Stefanik ( U.N. ambassador), and Kash Patel (FBI) have not been scheduled a hearing yet.
