U.S. Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg condemned Russia after launching an attack in Ukraine on Palm Sunday.

"Today's Palm Sunday attack by Russian forces on civilian targets in Sumy crosses any line of decency," Kellogg wrote. "There are scores of civilian dead and wounded. As a former military leader, I understand targeting, and this is wrong. It is why President Trump is working hard to end this war."

As reported by Ukrainian news outlet The Kyiv Independent, at least 34 people were killed and at least 117 were injured after Russia launched two ballistic missiles at Ukraine's northeastern city of Sumy on Sunday morning.

"Currently, 38 people are receiving treatment in medical facilities in Sumy following yesterday's Russian ballistic strike — among them, 9 children. 11 people, including 3 children, are in critical condition," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X Monday morning. "Every effort is being made to provide them with maximum assistance. Yesterday's strike alone claimed 34 lives and left 119 people injured. Tragically, 2 children were killed, and another 15 were wounded."

The attack comes just two days after Trump's Special Middle East Envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg. Russia had also refused to a 30-day ceasefire and has continually struck Ukraine's civilian centers. Meanwhile, Washington has attempted to arrange a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

Other world leaders, including United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, denounced Russia for the Sumy attack.

"I'm appalled at Russia's horrific attacks on civilians in Sumy, and my thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones at this tragic time," Starmer wrote on X. "President Zelenskyy has shown his commitment to peace. Putin must now agree to a full and immediate ceasefire without conditions."

Macron, in his post, noted that everyone knows that Russia solely "wanted this war" and is "choosing to continue it. In defiance of human lives, international law, and President Trump's diplomatic offers."

"Strong measures are needed to impose a ceasefire on Russia. France is working tirelessly towards this end alongside its partners," the French president continued.

"To the victims, to the wounded, to all of Ukraine that is resisting: our solidarity, our respect, our commitment."
