Christian artist Cory Asbury is proceeding with a "Jesus Bowl" alternative Super Bowl halftime show with Forrest Frank, focusing on worship and evangelism.



Christian artist Cory Asbury says a proposed alternative Super Bowl halftime show with Forrest Frank is still going forward, but that it won’t be part of Turning Point USA’s own event. Asbury said in a video posted to his Instagram account Tuesday that he and Frank are searching for a venue and donors for what he described as a halftime concert filled with worship. He dubbed it the “Jesus Bowl 26 alternative halftime show,” saying he recorded the new video to provide clarity on what it will be.

“Forrest and I soft-launched this idea of an alternative halftime show. People loved it. It took off. It went viral quickly. [It] seemed like there was a desire for something like this,” he said.

Asbury initially floated the idea in early October, shortly after the NFL announced the halftime performer for this year’s Super Bowl would be Bad Bunny, a singer known for his sexually explicit music. But the same week Asbury raised the prospect of an alternative event, Turning Point USA did as well, labeling it the “All-American Halftime Show.”

“So in the spirit of unity, Forrest and I jumped on a call with their team to talk it through – [it was a] productive, amicable discussion,” Asbury said. “But at the end of the day, the two visions are just incompatible.

“We want this to be a Jesus moment. We want this to be a time where culture is doing one thing and we're doing another. We're glorifying the name of Jesus. We're showing His preeminence. We're worshiping, we're praying.”

Asbury – perhaps best known for his songs Reckless Love and The Father’s House – said he envisions an “evangelistic Billy Graham Crusade kind of thing,” with a “call to the altar” and souls saved.

“There's just mass salvation taking place across this nation,” he said of the proposed event. “How beautiful would that be? So now it's time to find a venue, find donors and sponsors, because this is going to cost, legitimately, millions of dollars. Forrest and I are not taking a dime from this. This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. This is simply, ‘Let's offer something to the nation and to the Lord.’ So we've got our work cut out for us. If y'all know people, let us know. Connect us.
