Church Goes Viral for ‘Loud Kid Policy’: ‘If Your Child Makes Noise … You Are Blessing Us’

Two churches have gone viral for their heartwarming and humorous approach to children's noise during services, declaring that loud kids aren't just tolerated, but a blessing and a sign of the church's future.

Church Goes Viral for Loud Kid Policy If Your Child Makes Noise … You Are Blessing Us

A pair of churches in Mississippi and Pennsylvania have gone viral for a humorous “policy change” declaring that loud children are not only tolerated in their congregations – they are welcomed with open arms.

The Facebook post by Mt. Washington United Brethren in York, Pa., was intended as a lighthearted message for its members but soon gained viral status on social media as individuals copied the letter and pasted it on their accounts, applauding the church’s family-friendly stance. Across all platforms, it has received millions of views.

The Pennsylvania church later said it had gotten the idea from another congregation – First Baptist Union in Union, Miss. – that shared a similar letter that also went viral.

The Pennsylvania church’s letter announced what it called an official “policy clarification” regarding loud children, humorously presented as a formal church document titled “Notification of Policy Change – Re: Loud Kid Policy.” Written in the tone of a business memo, the letter said it was issued because the church is “committed to transparency and accountability in all matters of church life.”

It then outlined what it described as the “options” for families visiting the congregation if they have a loud child – though each option essentially delivered the same message. “Option 1,” the letter said, is that “the family should bring the kid.” “Option 2” instructs families to “make sure they bring the kid,” while “Option 3” says parents are to “see that the child is brought to church.” Finally, “Option 4” emphasizes the point clearly: “The kid is absolutely welcome and expected.”

The letter concluded by explaining the heart behind the playful policy, saying the sounds of children during worship should not be viewed as interruptions.

“We believe the sound of children in worship is not a distraction,” it said. “It is evidence of life, growth, and the future of the church. If your child makes noise, you are not bothering us. You are blessing us.”

The final line in the letter reinforced the tongue-in-cheek tone: “Policy enacted. No exceptions.”

The letter received plenty of applause on social media.

“I love this! Children are absolutely a blessing to have in service,” one person wrote. “Noisy, snotty, squirming, laughing, just get them there.”

“Coming from someone who has been asked to leave the sanctuary multiple times with a fussy baby, thank you for this,” another person wrote.

Still another person cited only Christ’s words: “Let the children come to Me.”
