After months of being banned from social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, former President Donald Trump, this week, launched a new communications platform where he will be able to communicate directly with his followers.

According to Fox News, the platform, From the Desk of Donald J. Trump, was launched on Tuesday, where Trump can post comments, pictures, and videos.

On Tuesday, Trump posted a video beginning with the words "In a time of silence and lies," followed by sound bites of news reports describing his permanent suspension from Twitter.

"A beacon of freedom arises. A place to speak freely and safely," the video continues, showing the new platform's name.

While followers will be able to share Trump's posts to Twitter and Facebook, the platform does not have a reply option. People can, however, sign up for alerts for when Trump makes a new post by entering their phone numbers and email addresses.

One source familiar with the new platform told Fox News that the site is "just a one-way communication" that permits the former president "to communicate with his followers."

After the Capitol riot on January 6, Trump was banned from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat. Following his suspension, Trump has talked about launching his own social media platform.

Jason Miller, a senior advisor to Trump, told Fox News that the new site was not a social media platform, but he plans to launch one in the future.

"President Trump's website is a great resource to find his latest statements and highlights from his first term in office, but this is not a new social media platform," Miller explained. "We'll have additional information coming on that front in the very near future."

On Wednesday, Facebook's Oversight Board upheld the social network's ban on Trump indefinitely, Reuters reports.

Despite the decision, the board said that a company review was required because the platform inappropriately imposed an indeterminate suspension without clear standards. The board added that Facebook must establish a response that is consistent with rules applied to its other users.

During a press conference following the decision on Wednesday, Michael McConnell, co-chair of the Oversight Board, said that "Facebook left the indefinite suspension in place and referred the entire matter to the Oversight Board, apparently hoping the board would do what it had not done."

"Indefinite penalties of this sort do not pass the international or American smell test for clarity, consistency, and transparency," he added.
