Filled to Overflowing

Bible in a Year : Psalms 81-83, Romans 11:19-36

Be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:19

Today's Scripture & Insight : Ephesians 3:16-21

As my five-year-old son and I read his Bible storybook together, I commented that Jesus makes His home inside us. Looking thoughtful, he asked, “So God can fit inside us?”

For a moment I was stuck: If I say yes, that sounds like God must be really small. If I say no, that sounds like I’m disagreeing with Jesus. Then I realised that I was focusing on the wrong thing—it’s not about God fitting into us but filling us.

Jesus fills the whole universe (Ephesians 4:10). So no, He doesn’t fit into tiny, limited human beings. But He does fill us with His presence, love and goodness. That’s why Paul prayed the Ephesians would “grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ . . . [being] filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (3:18–19).

As we allow Jesus more and more space to “dwell in our hearts” (v. 17) through resting in His presence and staying rooted in His Word, He fills us with Himself. As He continues to dwell within us, we keep on discovering more about Him to enjoy. Soon, we become like cups that can’t hold all that’s poured into them; the life, love and goodness of Jesus overflows out of us and washes over those around us.

Reflect & Pray
How often do you spend time simply reflecting on “how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ”? How can you give Him more space in your life?

God, thank You for Your infinite and satisfying presence. Please fill me with Your love and goodness as I rest with You and reflect on Your Word today.

Another thing that can divert your attention is opening your mouth prematurely to reveal your secret to sympathetic friends'. Never share a testimony until it is...More
