Appreciation for God’s Dwelling Place

But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!
2 Chronicles 6:18 NKJV

Appreciation for God's Dwelling Place
The very design of the temple was inspired by God, as David witnessed, saying, "The Lord made me understand in writing, by His hand upon me, all the works of these plans" (1 Chr. 28:19). Much of it was in keeping with the architecture and layout of the tabernacle. As grandiose as this all was, Solomon knew all too well that even this splendid house was not fit for the glory of God. In the days of Christ's ministry, He had to remind His hearers that the gold of the temple is not what makes it special; and in fact the temple itself is only significant because of Him who dwells in it.

We may read this and dismiss it as obvious, yet the same tendencies exist today. It is not unheard of for Christian groups to boast about their expensive buildings or their worship services. Such boasting loses sight of what is truly significant: God is dwelling among men! Let this blessed truth fuel our worship, and be the cornerstone of our doctrine, and may our walk be characterized by it.

It was repentance and a contrite heart that led to the rebuilding of the temple in the days of Zerubbabel. This was a work of God, and although there were hardships along the way, He blessed it. God looks for the same attitude in us amid the outward brokenness of the Church's testimony. Those in the days of Zerubbabel did not let themselves be discouraged because they could not rebuild the temple according to what it had been, and we should not be discouraged in the work God has called us to do either.

There is darkness around, but may we be drawn to Jesus Christ, the Lord of Glory, and not to buildings or manmade systems!

On the Day of Judgment, many whose names were in earth's halls of fame will be shown the way to the eternal lake of fire...More

BE STRONG

You don't charge someone to be strong if there is no task to be performed or if pressure is not required, either for motion or putting up resistance against an opposing force. In the physical realm, mere movement requires strength. This explains why a sick person or a person just recovering from an ailment finds it...More

God often proves to be other than people think...

Acts 5:4-5

God often proves to be other than people think. Here, for example, death struck a man suddenly for lying before God. Is God therefore severe, when he makes use of His power unreservedly towards the weak?
Let us first briefly examine what preceded this judgment. Holy zeal for the...More
