The Psalm of the Burnt Offering (2)

I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness in the great assembly; indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O Lord, You Yourself know. I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great assembly.
Psalm 40:9-10 NKJV

The Psalm of the Burnt Offering (2)
These verses belong to the second part of this messianic psalm, which presents the Lord Jesus as the Burnt Offering. Here we have the language of One who came to do the Father's will, and we view a five-fold message that goes out, not only to the great assembly, but to all mankind.

First, He declares that He proclaimed the good news of righteousness. The Lord Jesus loved righteousness, He lived righteousness, He preached righteousness, and His finished work on the Cross satisfied the righteousness of God. It was Christ Jesus "whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness" (Rom. 3:25). This is the theme of the Book of Romans.

Next, He came forth to declare the faithfulness of God. Jeremiah could say, "Great is Your faithfulness." In the New Testament we read of our God being faithful multiple times.

Thirdly, the Lord Jesus declared the salvation of the Lord! This is a salvation from the penalty of sin, from the power of sin, and soon from the presence of sin!

The last two proclamations concern lovingkindness and truth. Throughout the life of our Lord, we see Him revealing the heart of the Father in His lovingkindness and truth, a perfect balance of both! Love can never be separate from truth! It flows from the heart of a God who is true (Jn. 3:33), through His Son who is truth (Jn. 14:6), and revealed to us through the Spirit of Truth (Jn. 14:17). Let us worship Him today!

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Read:
, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
