Four People Who Said “My Lord” (1)—Elizabeth the Mother of John

Why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Luke 1:43 NKJV

Four People Who Said "My Lord" (1)—Elizabeth the Mother of John
There are four people found in the New Testament who each, at critical junctures in their lives, exclaimed, "My Lord." Elizabeth the wife of Zacharias, Mary Magdalene, Thomas the disciple, and the apostle Paul are all recorded to have uttered these words. What an example and lesson for our hearts we find in each of these godly believers!

In today's meditation, we will look at Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. What a remarkable turn of events for this dear saint and her husband, Zacharias the priest. They had been childless and, due to their age, had given up hope of ever having a child—an important aspect of Jewish life and expectation. But God had miraculously intervened, and, not only that, their soon to be born son would be "great in the sight of the Lord," a prophet and the forerunner of Messiah (1:15, 17).

A remarkable and unprecedented incident occurred upon the visit to Elizabeth's home by a young relative, Mary of Nazareth. When Mary entered the house and greeted Elizabeth, "the babe leaped" in Elizabeth's womb! She was immediately filled with the Holy Spirit and said in a loud voice, "Why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" These amazing words have echoed down through the centuries to our own times, and thrilled the hearts of all believers. Elizabeth was not simply overcome by the emotion of the event, but was given an inspired revelation of who the unborn Guest was who had entered her home. It was none other than her Lord, the God of her fathers, who had come to redeem His people.

What a confession, and what depth in the words: "My Lord!" There is no truth found in all the Bible or in all the world more wonderful than the fact that God became a Man!

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

TOUCH NOT

In today's Bible reading, while David and his men were away, the Amalekites invaded Ziklag, defeated the city and set it on fire, after which they took members of their families - wives, sons and daughters as captives. When they returned and saw the situation of Ziklag, David and his men were really distressed,...More
