A Love That Is Irrevocable, Undeniable, and Unsurpassable

The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the Lord loves you.

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

You have lovingly delivered my soul from the pit of corruption, for You have cast all my sins behind Your back.

Deuteronomy 7:6-8 NKJV; Psalm 91:14 NKJV; Isaiah 38:17 NKJV

A Love That Is Irrevocable, Undeniable, and Unsurpassable
These verses speak of God's love for His earthly people, but He is unchanging too in His love toward us. The hymn writer states, "O love unsurpassed and unbounded!"

We find three things in these verses. First, Deuteronomy 7 speaks of the Lord setting His love upon His own. Another translation uses "attached to." Nothing can separate us from His love; He will never withdraw it. God's love is irrevocable. Because of Christ, this love is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. The Lord ever draws us into closer enjoyment of His love.

Second, Psalm 91 is a picture of the Lord setting His love on the Father. While here on earth, He desired "that the world may know that I love the Father" (Jn. 14:31). This love is undeniable. The Father has set Him on high—with Him on His throne. Soon He will be set on high for all heaven and earth to own. Even now, we rejoice in this perfect demonstration of love and, by grace, set our love on the Lord Jesus.

Third, Isaiah 38 brings to mind a love that is unsurpassable. We, even more than Hezekiah, know a love that not only provides present mercies but has answered the heart's deepest need.

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More

HAZARDING LIVES FOR MISSIONS

The gospel had made great inroads into the aristocracy and among intellectuals, and had already changed the lives...More
