Why the Gospel of John Was Written

And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
John 20:30-31 NKJV

Why the Gospel of John Was Written
These verses tell us why John's Gospel was written. Were three Gospels not enough? What could a fourth one add to what Matthew, Mark, and Luke had already covered? These inspired writers had written the Gospels we call by their names, and had doubtless been long with the Lord by the time John wrote his Gospel.

John, probably the youngest of the Lord's disciples, lived to a ripe old age. False teaching as to who the Lord was, was being promulgated within the Christian profession. John had known the Lord from the beginning of His public ministry, had witnessed His miracles, had leaned on His bosom, had faithfully followed Him. The Holy Spirit used John to write about Jesus as the Son of God, the full expression of the mind of God, come into the world to His own people as the Christ, their promised Messiah, but rejected from the very onset. His miracles in this Gospel are presented as signs demonstrating who He is. Time after time we hear Him saying, "I am," the name God had used to introduce who He is to Israel of old, the One who is all to meet man's needs.

Again and again, we find Jesus dealing with needy individuals of all sorts, not only meeting temporal needs, but offering eternal life, life more abundantly, to every one who comes to Him in faith believing. Ultimately, He lays down His life and takes it up again in resurrection, giving peace to those He calls "My brethren." If you want to know God as your Father, Jesus as your Savior, and the Holy Spirit as your divine Helper indwelling you, read, meditate on, and enjoy this wonderful Gospel of John!

Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their...More

TOTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIRED

When we teach about tithes and first fruits, some people think that it is the pastor's way of making money but they are making a great mistake. When you put God first, He will make sure that your blessings are irreversible. But if you decide to give Him second place in your life, you may not be happy to see what...More

FACING OUR PAST

Like Paul,we don't need to parade our failures or to pretend they didn't happen. Instead, we can thank the Lord that through His grace and power, our past is forgiven, our presence is changed, and our future is bright with hope for all he has prepared for us. - David...More
