The Good and Faithful Servant (3)

Behold, Rebecca came out … And the man stooped, and bowed down before Jehovah, and said, Blessed be Jehovah, God of my master Abraham, who has … led me to the house of my master’s brethren.
Genesis 24:15, 26–27 JND

The Good and Faithful Servant (3)
Genesis 24 sets before us the characteristics of a good and faithful servant. Every child of God in the right spiritual condition desires to serve the Lord Jesus Christ, and to hear one day from His mouth these wonderful words: “Well done, good and faithful servant!” For this reason, it is important that we learn how to be good and faithful in serving our Lord.

Abraham’s servant is a good example. After getting clear instructions from his master, he began his journey to the appointed place, and the first thing he did was to pray. He prayed for the success of his mission in order to bring joy to his master’s heart. And because he had that as his goal, before he finished praying the answer was on the way. He did not rush to any action, but attentively watched the Lord working in Rebecca until it became certain to him that she was the one chosen by the Lord for Isaac. What a glorious thing to be able to say with certainty, “The Lord has led me.” Alas that such words are frequently uttered flippantly! O that the Lord may grant us to be led by Him in serving Him.

As the servant saw God’s hand in leading him in such a marvelous way, and saw the Lord’s excellent choice of a bride for Isaac, he stooped and bowed down before Jehovah. He worshiped. He acknowledged God’s wonderful help and blessed the Lord. He did not let the joy of his success make him forget who granted him the success. Two things are very obvious in this story: he was a man of faith, and his desire was to bring joy to his master.

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
