The Prince of Life

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
John 1:4

The Prince of Life
Human life began when God took what He had formed from the dust and breathed into it the breath of life to form a living being (Gen. 2:7). Death came in shortly after when the first couple doubted God’s motives (3:5–6), and this set in motion the all-too-familiar cycle we witness today, where life is continuously interrupted by death. It took the Prince of Life to come and disrupt this reality over which we have no control.

Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (Jn. 10:10), and yet still His motives were questioned. This is because the life He offered was inextricably linked to light, and people “loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” (Jn. 3:19).

His power to give life is witnessed by the three miracles where death is temporarily subverted. In one case, death had moments before seized the life of a little girl, but Jesus took her by the hand and restored her (Lk. 8:40–56). In another, death had claimed the son of a widow and the burial ceremonies were well under way (Lk. 7:11–17). And lastly, Lazarus, who had been dead four days, is asked to come forth, and they loose him from the grave clothes.

His power over death is much greater than those three miracles. He conquered death by giving His own life and offers much more than temporal life. The wages for your sin is death, yet the Lord Jesus is the resurrection and the life, and if you put your trust in Him as the One who died for you, He will give you eternal life! You will not be judged for your sins because He took that on Himself. You will pass from darkness into light (Acts 26:18), and from death to life (Jn. 5:24).

Eric Clermont

Prince of life and glory, shine before our eyes,
And let Calvary’s story sound through earth and skies.

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
