Details
Joshua (6)—Rahab’s New Life

Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who are with her in the house … Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father’s household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
Joshua 6:17, 25

Joshua (6)—Rahab’s New Life
When Israel had followed the Lord’s detailed instructions for a whole week, at Joshua’s direction they gave a great shout, and the priests blew with their trumpets and Jericho’s wall fell flat. Israel could rush in from every direction and take the city, killing the people and destroying all that was in it.

Some weeks had passed since Rahab had lowered the two spies down over the wall with the scarlet cord. Now Joshua sent them to her house, telling them to bring out Rahab and all that she had. When the spies went into Rahab’s house they found Rahab and her entire family there. All had crowded into this house on the wall and had remained there. They had not known when their deliverance would come; they had waited, trusting in the oath the spies had given. Their faith was now rewarded.

At first they were set outside the camp of Israel. But soon we find that Rahab “dwells in Israel to this day.” Her sordid past was behind her. She married a prince of the tribe of Judah, Salmon, and became the mother of Boaz, that mighty man of wealth who later married Ruth the Moabitess. King David was one of her descendants. More wonderful yet, her name is found in the genealogy of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 1:5. What a marvel of the grace of God! That same grace is still at work today.

Eugene P. Vedder, Jr.

Of grace then let us sing,
A joyful, wondrous theme,
Who grace has brought, shall glory bring,
And we shall reign with Him.

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
