A Poor Wise Man

There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great snares around it. Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man.
Ecclesiastes 9:14–15

A Poor Wise Man
How perverted are the natural thoughts of our hearts! If a man set in high honor and dignity were to formulate a wise plan by which to deliver his city from a formidable attack by a great adversary, he would be highly acclaimed and should likely have a monument erected in his honor. But a poor man who shows such wisdom is forgotten.

God has so wisely ordained that His own beloved Son, the One who is worthy of dignity infinitely higher than the highest of men, should come into this world as a poor Man. He came in marvelous humility and great kindness to a world so small in comparison to the universe He had created, and so weak in comparison to the great forces of satanic power which had completely surrounded men.

This poor Man acted in wisdom wonderful beyond our thought, not only devising a plan by which to save the world, but sacrificing His own life to carry out this plan to perfection: “He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Phil. 2:8). His finished work will eventually liberate this world from all danger, and by it countless souls have already been eternally saved from a dreadful end.

How many are there today who really remember this poor wise Man? Sadly, by so many He is forgotten. In clear contrast, let every believer gladly remember Him with a full heart and in worshiping adoration.

Lord Jesus, we remember
The travail of Thy soul,
When, through Thy love’s deep pity,
The waves did o’er Thee roll.

Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their...More

TOTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIRED

When we teach about tithes and first fruits, some people think that it is the pastor's way of making money but they are making a great mistake. When you put God first, He will make sure that your blessings are irreversible. But if you decide to give Him second place in your life, you may not be happy to see what...More

FACING OUR PAST

Like Paul,we don't need to parade our failures or to pretend they didn't happen. Instead, we can thank the Lord that through His grace and power, our past is forgiven, our presence is changed, and our future is bright with hope for all he has prepared for us. - David...More
