The Mystery of Godliness

Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory.
1 Timothy 3:16

The Mystery of Godliness
This is indeed so great a mystery that the human mind cannot understand it. Neither can we understand God in the greatness of His being. What creature could possibly understand One who is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent—One who is infinite and eternal? We all are impotent, ignorant, and limited, nor do we understand eternity.

People may object that it is only the Bible that tells us of these great attributes of God, for we do not and cannot see Him. But all creation bears witness to God’s eternal power and divinity. Romans 1:20 testifies of that: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” The Creator must necessarily be greater than His creation. For such a God to become manifest in flesh is amazingly beyond all human imagination. It sounds incredible, and, for this reason, many reject even the possibility. But, if we reason sensibly, is it hard to believe that a God so infinitely great, a God of such awesome power and wisdom, is able to make Himself known by becoming Man while still maintaining the great glory of His deity?

The marvelous manifestation of Himself in flesh is a testimony to both the greatness of His glory and the greatness of His love and kindness toward humanity. We do not need to understand everything about this amazing revelation of the living God in the Person of the Lord Jesus. But although we do not understand, it still calls for the deepest adoration and worship of our hearts. “For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen” (Rom. 11:36).

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
