Two Seeds

Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the LORD.
Genesis 4:25–26

Two Seeds
The first human being born in this world, sadly, became the first murderer. We are talking about Cain, the firstborn son of Adam and Eve. What happened? His younger brother Abel had become a farmer and had a flock. Cain offered to God the best of the fruit he had cultivated, working hard because of God’s curse over this earth (Gen. 3:14–19). Abel brought a sacrifice to God of his herd, the firstborn, and he included a portion of fat that showed its excellent quality. God was well-pleased (4:4) and confirmed this in His Word (Heb. 11:4). As to Cain’s sacrifice, God could not accept something that came from the ground that He had cursed because of sin (Gen. 3:17–19). Cain was jealous of his brother, whom he ultimately killed.

Genesis 4 describes two very different “seeds”: one linked with Cain, who murdered his own brother, and the other with Seth, who came in Abel’s place. Seth, whose name means “appointed,” was another son God gave to Adam and Eve after Abel had died; then people started to call upon the Lord (4:26). In the fullness of time, a descendant of Seth, our Lord Jesus, gave Himself as the supreme Sacrifice. Through Him, eternal life comes to each one who believes (Jn. 3:16).

Genesis 1–11 describes the foundation of what follows. Abel was replaced by Seth, the ancestor of Him through whom life has come to all who believe. Cain and his descendants represent a world in rebellion and sin. Today, each one must choose whether he represents Cain or accepts the death of the innocent One who was appointed by God as the Savior of the world. It is time to call upon the name of the Lord!

1 Chronicles 28:9

The Psalmist prayed, Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting' (Psalms 139:23-24 NKJV). If you're wise you'll...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
