The Fruit of Our Lips

Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
Hebrews 13:15

The Fruit of Our Lips
There are many passages in the Scriptures that show us clearly that God is seeking a response from our hearts. Part of the plan of creation was that He would have a relationship with mankind. Before sin entered in, He came in the cool of the day to commune with Adam and Eve, but this all changed with their disobedience. Notwithstanding, God made a way to restore this fellowship by means of a sacrifice, which pointed to the Lamb of God who would take away our sins. By faith in the Lord Jesus Christ we now have free access into God’s presence and enjoy this fellowship once again. So it is normal that we respond with fruit to Him.

In 1 Peter 2, we are told that we are all priests, and this is true of all believers, regardless of age, gender, or race. When we come together we can praise Him with the fruit of our lips, giving praise and thanks to Him (Heb. 13:15). We are told that when we come together, each one can bring a psalm, a teaching, and so on (1 Cor. 14:26). He wants us to gather around Him to worship and remember Him.

We may think, “Who am I?” or “I am not worthy!” or “I just can’t do so publicly!” But we marvel at the man who had once been possessed by demons. Christ told him to tell the wonderful things that the Lord had done for him (Mk. 5:18–20). He knew very little about the Lord yet proclaimed the great things that the Lord had done for him. Regardless of our age and our Bible knowledge, can we not do the same? May Matthew 21:16 challenge us: “Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise.”

Albert Blok

There to our hearts Thy rich unmeasured grace,
And love’s full fountain more and more revealed,
Call forth from every mouth Thine endless praise,
And willing lips their heart-felt homage yield.

(2 Peter 3:18)

God in His grace has centered every blessing for us in Christ. Without Christ, we have nothing, nothing but our sins; with Christ we have all things, and therefore want nothing in addition to Christ. As...More

NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

There is a nature that is of the Earth and there is a nature that is of Heaven. Since the fall of man, the earthly nature of man has become corrupted and therefore is greatly under the influence of the kingdom of Satan. Characteristic features of this nature are: wickedness, moral perversion - sodomy and all sorts of...More
