Intimacy With God

When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, therefore, in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.
Psalm 63:6–8

Intimacy With God
In the quiet moments, when things around you calm down, what do you think of? David took advantage of those quiet moments, and his thoughts turned to the Lord. This is evidence of intimacy with the Lord in David’s life. He even thought of the Lord during those night watches. Many of us have passed through the night seasons—times when thing are dark, times of discouragement or even depression.

David was not going to waste those times. He used them to develop intimacy with the Lord. Intimacy requires trust, even in the night watches. David was willing to trust God’s character. On another occasion he could say, “Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness” (Ps. 37:3). Intimacy requires us to believe that our God cannot lie (Tit. 1:2), that His character does not change (Jas. 1:17; Heb. 13:8), and that He never goes back on His word (Num. 23:19).

Intimacy also requires a right relationship with Him. This relationship takes time to develop and requires time spent alone. David speaks of the security He finds in the Lord, and he follows close behind Him because he had enjoyed the strength of His powerful right hand.

Like David, you and I can enjoy the security, strength, and safety that comes with intimacy with the Lord. But look back over the verses of our psalm and notice key words to this intimacy. These key words are like stepping stones that lead to a beautiful garden. Words like “remember,” “meditate,” “help,” “shadow of Your wings,” and “Your right hand.” These are words that took David’s attention off his own situation and helped him take step after step into intimacy with his God. Take a step toward intimacy with the Lord today!

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
