Bless God With Your Lips

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus, I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.
Psalm 63:3–5

Bless God With Your Lips
David turns his attention upward, and his heart begins to overflow inwardly with praise! He began to be occupied with the faithful love which God demonstrates toward those who fear Him! Earlier in this psalm, David says, “My soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You” (Ps. 63:1). Here David declares, “my soul shall be satisfied.” There is no banquet that can beat the communion and fellowship with the God of the universe, whose lovingkindness is better than life!

The very thought of this caused David to swell up with praise to his God. The Lord satisfies the soul with the choicest delights. David describes it as “marrow and fatness.” Marrow is vital to the bones, supplying nourishment to them.

Satisfaction and song were the key ingredients to David’s heart of contentment—keeping in mind that David wrote this while he was in the wilderness. He had been forced to leave everything he had. He was a fugitive on the run, and yet his heart rose up in praise! The secret ingredient was that David’s heart was set on intimacy with His God. At least fifteen times David uses the word “You” or “Your.” He begins the psalm’s address with, “O God, You are my God,” and ends the psalm with, “But the king shall rejoice in God.”

From Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, right down to today, we see the saints directly addressing God, a loving God who “did not spare His own son, but delivered Him up for us all” (Rom. 8:32). Take a moment, like David, to bless the Lord with your lips and let your mouth praise Him with joyful lips!
