The Inspired Book

I understand more than the aged, because I have observed Thy precepts.
Psalm 119:100

The Inspired Book
The story is told of a school principal retiring after many years of faithful service and being asked, "How do you plan to spend your retirement years?" Her prompt reply, "In reading again the great classics." How infinitely better if she would rather devote her remaining years to the study of the Scriptures! Man's will, by and large, has produced the great classics; God's skill has produced His written Word. Man's wisdom permeates the great classics; God's wisdom permeates His written Word. The enhancement of life on earth moved the classical writers. The provision of eternal life for guilty man moved the God of heaven to communicate His love to mankind.

I do not say this to despise in any way the literary giants of this and other ages. My only aim is to emphasize the infinite contrast between the inspired Word of God and all else that has ever been written. Only the Holy Scriptures could be described in the following way: "Divinely inspired, and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" .

We may speak of an inspiring song, or an inspiring story, or an inspiring principle, and mean that such things have profoundly moved and uplifted us. We may even speak of inspiring people—their special qualities challenge and motivate us. But the inspiration of the Scriptures remains totally other than this and unique. God's Word stands alone because it is God-breathed, revealed directly by Himself through human instruments—perfectly suited to meet man in his need.

Grant W. Steidl

Thy word, Thyself revealing, doth sanctify by truth,

Still leading on Thy children with gentle heavenly growth:

Thus still the work proceedeth, (the work begun by grace),

For each is meet, and training, Father, to see Thy face.

S. P. Tregelles

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And...

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.
(Genesis 18:1)

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
