In our generation that is characterized by self-interest and a tendency to promote oneself, how refreshing to look back and see the Christ-like character of Joshua in his self-effacing service. Whether in his early days of humbly dedicating himself to Moses, or later in his life as a mighty leader, he glorified God by his obedience and faithfulnessâ€”an example to us all that we should not seek to be served, but like our blessed Lord Jesus, our desire should be to serve others.

The first we hear of Joshua is when Moses asks him to fight Amalek, and the result is, .
