The Blood of Christ (14)—Precious Blood

Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.
1 Peter 1:18-20

The Blood of Christ (14)—Precious Blood
Silver and gold can purchase many things. However, they could not redeem us in God's sight. "Their wealth their riches None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him—for the redemption of their souls is costly" (Ps. 49:6-8).

We find in our verse above how costly our redemption was. It required precious blood. The blood of many lambs was shed, but never is that blood called precious. This term is reserved for the blood of the heavenly Lamb, the Lamb of God, our Lord Jesus Christ. He was without blemish and without spot. Whether within or without, He was pure and acceptable to God.

He and His work had been prophesied throughout the Old Testament. Abel, at the very beginning after the fall of man into sin, brought his lamb with the fat to present to God. On the Passover night, each Israelite family had to take that special lamb—which they had watched for four days—kill it, and put its blood upon the lintel and doorposts of their houses. "When I see the blood, I will pass over you," Jehovah had said.

With the setting up of the Law, and the tabernacle, and later the temple, there was to be a lamb offered every morning and every evening upon the altar of burnt offering. But what a moment it was when John the Baptist could look upon the Lord Jesus and say, ! He is precious and His blood is precious!

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More
