God’s Greatness in Creation

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion" So God created man male and female He created them. Then God blessed them.

Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.

Genesis 1:1, 3, 26-28; Job 38:4

God's Greatness in Creation
The Bible begins with the majestic declaration that in the beginning God—who was there, for He has no beginning—created the heavens and the earth. It goes on to tell in very few words how God made the earth ready for mankind. God in His infinite wisdom and loving goodness did all by the word of His power: "God said, ‘Let there be' and there was!"

After all had been made and put in place, we are introduced to the Persons of the Godhead counseling together: Let Us make man in the image and likeness of God. The New Testament reveals to us that before the foundation of the world God had already chosen us in Christ, predestinating us to be conformed to the image of His Son (; Rom. 8:29). Genesis 2 shows us that God did not create man by the word of His power, but formed man of the dust of the ground and made the woman of a rib He had taken from the man. He brought her to him, blessed them, gave them their occupation, and provided food for them in abundance. God showed Himself to be a God of love from the very beginning.

Yet man has the audacity to deny God and to challenge His Word about the marvel of how the worlds came into being! And still God condescends to speak to man, shows man who He is, and causes him to realize what man is in God's presence! Man wickedly denies God and concocts ever-changing notions of how he and the worlds came to be! Patiently, our God still offers free salvation today!
