God’s “Thoughts”

How precious are Thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more in number than the sand.
Psalm 139:17-18

God's "Thoughts"
We see one of the precious thoughts of God in John 3:16, which says, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him may not perish, but have life eternal." This is what Cyprian called "an ocean of thought in a drop of language"! Who can sound the depths of this thought of God? It will form the theme and the mystery of eternity; it will be the center and focus around which all revolves.

There is no measuring that love—it defies all human computation. The Scripture, hence, does not attempt to gauge or fathom it, but merely says, "God so loved"! His redeemed Church in heaven will forever contemplate its profoundness and will exclaim, "Thy thoughts are very deep" (Ps. 92:5)!

Think of that love which culminated in triumph on the cross, when God's "precious thoughts" had their awful exponent and interpreter in the precious blood of Christ. Think of that moment when God laid His Isaac, whom He loved infinitely, on that altar and offered Him as a Sacrifice! Think, too, that this act was an act of love for guilty, undeserving rebels: "God commends His love to us, in that, we being still sinners, Christ has died for us" (Rom. 5:8).

The cross was God's mode of showing us His heart. Apart from that act, a boundless ocean of love would have remained forever shut up and concealed in the heart of God. Now it has found a channel for its expression. God has expressed it by sending His only-begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him, for God is love.

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
(2 Peter 3:18)

God in His grace has centered every blessing for us in Christ. Without Christ, we have nothing, nothing but our sins; with Christ we have all things, and therefore want nothing in addition to Christ. As...More

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
