Psalm 133 (3)—Life Forevermore

It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing—life forevermore.
Psalm 133:3

Psalm 133 (3)—Life Forevermore
The oil came first upon the head of Aaron, then descended to the beard, and finally to the very edge or hem of his garment (vv. 1-2). The unity of brethren is described as being like this oil, but the oil itself also is a picture of the Holy Spirit! First the Holy Spirit came upon Christ, then by grace, the "gift of the Holy Spirit" was given to us by Him. Aaron is a wonderful type of this, the oil upon his head and descending to the hem of his garment (see Lev. 8:12, 30; Mt. 3:16; Acts 2:33).

The oil upon Aaron is also illustrated by "the dew of Hermon." The idea of the dew is that which vivifies and refreshes. The dew first settled on the higher mountain of Hermon, then descended to the lower mountains of Jerusalem. Mount Hermon is possibly the sight of the Transfiguration of Christ; the Transfiguration is the scene where the glory of the kingdom was foreshadowed during Christ's ministry on earth (Mt. 16:28-17:3; 2 Pet. 1:16-17).

Mount Hermon then directs us to Israel's blessings in the future millennial kingdom. Indeed, this is really the point of the psalm. It is upon the "mountains of Zion" that God has commanded the blessing prophetically in Psalm 133. "Life forevermore," or eternal life, is only mentioned two times in the Old Testament: here and in Daniel 12:2. Israel waits for this, but now it has come out to us in the fullness of revelation (2 Tim. 1:10). Eternal life is a present possession for the believer, while at the same time a hope that is yet ahead of us (Tit. 1:2). May the very thought of this free gift refresh our hearts like the "dew of Hermon"! Let us meditate, too, upon the great cost that was paid to purchase it for us.

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
