The Seed of the Woman

They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Genesis 3:8

The Seed of the Woman
It has been said that "conscience makes cowards of us all." This is seen at the very beginning of man's history on earth. The Lord God called to Adam, and he answered, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself" (v. 10). Of course the Lord knew just where Adam and Eve were, but He called them and they could no longer hide. Mankind has since learned well from Adam how to shift the blame for wrongdoing to someone else. In fact, as well as blaming his wife for giving him the fruit of the tree, Adam also inferred that God had some blame because it was He who had given him the woman (v. 12). Then the Lord questioned Eve, and she blamed the serpent for deceiving her (v. 13). At least they both confessed the damaging fact that "I ate."

The Lord would put enmity between the serpent and the woman and her seed (v. 15). This seed can be none other than the Lord Jesus, who, many years later was born of a virgin, though His "goings forth are from of old, from everlasting" (Mic. 5:2). The Son of God, who in time became Man, would totally destroy the works of the devil. He would bruise the serpent's head, and in doing so, He would suffer the bruising of His heel, referring to the sufferings and death of the Lord Jesus on the cross of Calvary. The bruising of the head of the serpent means the complete destruction of Satan by means of the infinite value of the cross of Christ.

Further in our chapter in Genesis, we read that the Lord God made coats of skin and clothed both Adam and Eve (v. 21). This required the death of an animal and typifies Christ's death to forgive our sins and to clothe us with Christ, our Righteousness. Wonderful grace indeed!

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More
