Let Us Draw Near

Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.
Hebrews 10:19-22

Let Us Draw Near
The question of sin now settled, the believer is encouraged in those privileges that are proper to him. The law sternly forbade entry into the holiest. In the legal system God dwelt in thick darkness, and none dared approach. But the saint of God today is called to approach with calm, holy boldness, having fullest confidence in the blood of Jesus, which gives perfect title to the immediate presence of God.

The way into the holiest is both "new," as accomplished by the death of Christ, and "living," as being vital and eternal. Moreover, He has consecrated it. No service of consecration is left to man at all. The veil, separating between the holy place and the Holiest, is here interpreted for us as "His flesh." His perfect manhood was actually an absolute barrier to man's entrance into God's presence, for in Christ's blessed manhood God demonstrated that only perfection was satisfactory to Him. The death of Christ—the rending of the veil from top to bottom—is the wondrous work that opens the way into God's presence for us.

He is also a High Priest over the house of God, One whose mediation is perfection itself, and because of Him the believer is gladly welcomed. It is right that we should draw near, but certainly with a true heart. How could we dare stoop to deceit in connection with those things in which God's perfect truth and love have been so clearly manifested? We draw near in full assurance of faith. This should be our attitude in drawing near—no unholy familiarity or unseemly forwardness, yet no terror or shrinking, but with a calm, holy decision of faith.

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
