Christ Our Savior (3)—Savior of the World

And more a great deal believed on account of His word; and they said to the woman, It is no longer on account of thy saying that we believe, for we have heard Him ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.
John 4:41-42

Christ Our Savior (3)—Savior of the World
John 4 is a wonderful chapter that presents to us the Lord Jesus as the Savior of the world. Joseph in the Old Testament received the name "Zaphnath-paaneah" from Pharaoh (Gen. 41:45). One of the meanings of this name is, "Savior of the world." Now here, in this place, is one greater than Joseph!

"He must needs pass through Samaria" (Jn. 4:4). The Jews would often cross the Jordan River when going north to Galilee in order to avoid Samaria. But our blessed Lord "had an appointment" with a woman there and with many of her fellow countrymen in Sychar.

How wonderful that our Lord, who is the worthy object of the Father's love (Jn. 3:35), goes to meet with unworthy sinners. But so it was for each one of us. He met us with the gospel and saved our souls. What grace fills His heart!

In the book of Genesis, Joseph undertook a great administrative task to save the Egyptians, and indeed His own family. He had been through the pit and through the prison before He was exalted to the throne to be the savior. Yet how much greater were the sufferings of the Lord Jesus! He went into the lowest depths for us, being forsaken of God, enduring the penalty of our sins, and going into death, as the hymn-writer says, "the death deserved by us." Now He is exalted to the throne of God, "having made by Himself the purification of sins, set Himself down on the right hand of the Greatness on high" (Heb. 1:3).

Joseph distributed grain to all the people who came to him. Today, the Lord Jesus is giving salvation freely to all who come to Him. Have you come to Him as the Savior?

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
