They Made Him a Supper

Jesus therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany, where was the dead man Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from among the dead. There therefore they made Him a supper, and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those at table with Him.
John 12:1-2

They Made Him a Supper
What a scene at Bethany! The evidence of His love was there and also that of His death-conquering power, for Lazarus was there, witness to the resurrecting glory of the Son of God. This indeed was a circle of love, for we read in an earlier chapter, "Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus" (11:5). His was a well-known love, for had not the sisters sent to Him saying, "He whom Thou lovest is sick"? Jesus then came to Bethany and there "they made Him a supper."

Love ever delights to expend itself on its object, and so they feasted Him, giving Him the chief place. Martha served; Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him; Mary brought forth her store of very costly ointment and lavished it on His holy feet (12:3). Thus she took her place in adoring worship, gladdening His heart under the impending shadow of the cross, and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment. Hated by that circle which shortly was to crucify Him, here in the home at Bethany, within six days of His crucifixion, He is loved, adored, and honored.

May your heart and mine, under the attraction of His glory and the drawing power of His undying love, make Him a supper! Joining in spirit with all who love Him in sincerity, let us gather to His name, recognizing that He is the Assembly's only Center of gathering. Let us partake of the Lord's Supper with loving and worshiping hearts. May we remember Him as we gather to His Name, in the hope of being forever with Him, "For as often as ye shall eat this bread, and drink the cup, ye announce the death of the Lord, until He come" (1 Cor. 11:26).

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
