Christ Our Savior (4)—Exalted

The God of our Fathers has raised up Jesus, whom ye have slain, having hanged on a cross. Him has God exalted by His right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and remission of sins.
Acts 5:30-31

Christ Our Savior (4)—Exalted
Here in Acts 5, Peter and the other apostles were put into prison by the religious leaders (v. 18). However, we see an illustration that the Word of God is not bound! An angel is sent to deliver them from prison and tells them, "Go ye and stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life" (v. 20).

The apostles are then brought before the high priest and the council. Peter and the other apostles warn these leaders that their controversy is really with God Himself. They were guilty of slaying the Lord Jesus and hanging Him on a cross: "Him has God exalted by His right hand." Israel had rejected their Messiah but God had received Him! What a solemn thing! Yet even then Peter can tell them that He was exalted to be "a Leader and a Savior." Even then for Israel, exalted as Savior, He was available for any of Israel who would call upon Him "to give repentance to Israel and remission of sins." Joel had prophesied of this: "whosoever shall call upon the name of Jehovah shall be saved" (Joel 2:32). While Israel was looking for deliverance from the Romans, Peter tells them that the Lord is ready to save them from their sins (cf. Mt. 1:21).

We know that Israel as a nation refused the offer from an exalted Christ. How wonderful then that the gospel has come out to us Gentiles (Isa. 49:6). We know Him as a Savior today! But what great mercy of our God that in a future day the restored remnant of Israel will receive their Messiah and know both the remission of their sins, and deliverance from their enemies. The mercy that has saved us will save them, too (Rom. 11:30-32)!

On the Day of Judgment, many whose names were in earth's halls of fame will be shown the way to the eternal lake of fire...More

BE STRONG

You don't charge someone to be strong if there is no task to be performed or if pressure is not required, either for motion or putting up resistance against an opposing force. In the physical realm, mere movement requires strength. This explains why a sick person or a person just recovering from an ailment finds it...More

God often proves to be other than people think...

Acts 5:4-5

God often proves to be other than people think. Here, for example, death struck a man suddenly for lying before God. Is God therefore severe, when he makes use of His power unreservedly towards the weak?
Let us first briefly examine what preceded this judgment. Holy zeal for the...More
