Ten Miracles in Matthew 8 and 9 (9)—Two Blind Men

Two blind men followed Him, crying and saying, Have mercy on us, Son of David.
Matthew 9:27

Ten Miracles in Matthew 8 and 9 (9)—Two Blind Men
Giving sight to the blind evidenced that Jesus was the promised Messiah, the Son of David. He is recorded as healing seven blind men:

(1) here, two near Capernaum who call upon Him as Son of David;

(2) in Matthew 12:22-23, one who was also demon-possessed and dumb, resulting in the crowds recognizing Jesus as Son of David;

(3) in Matthew 20:29-34, two near Jericho who likewise recognize Him;

(4) in Mark 8:22-26, one in Bethsaida who required two touches;

(5) in John 9, one who was sent to wash in the pool of Siloam.

That "blind men see," was the first proof given to reassure John the Baptist that Jesus was the Coming One (Mt. 11:2-6). Mark and John had other emphases, but Matthew writes to present the Son of David (Mt. 1:1). The specific cry of the blind men here in chapter 9 appeals to His mercy. Here we learn that we, by nature, are spiritually blind. But we learn also the mercy of the Lord Jesus who came to give us sight.

The merciful Son of David was rejected by His own nation, Israel. Matthew's list of miracles matches the teaching of Romans. The fifth, where they wanted Him to depart (Mt. 8:34), shows that, "As regards the glad tidings, they are enemies" (Rom. 11:28). The eighth, the little girl, shows that they are dead (Rom. 11:15). The ninth here shows that "blindness in part is happened to Israel" (Rom. 11:25). The mercy we have enjoyed awaits Israel also: "For as indeed ye also once have not believed in God, but now have been objects of mercy through the unbelief of these; so these also have now not believed in your mercy, in order that they also may be objects of mercy in order that he might shew mercy to all" (Rom. 11:29-32).

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, ...

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
