His Name Is Wonderful

Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given And His name will be called Wonderful.
Isaiah 9:6

His Name Is Wonderful
"Wonderful," what does that word mean to us? It means fullness of awe, amazing, arousing wonder, unusually good. Perhaps these words express our thoughts as we think about Niagara Falls or the Grand Canyon or other natural wonders of the world, but they cannot adequately express the fullness of the person of the Lord Jesus.

When we consider that the Almighty, the Creator God, became Man, that He, the One by whom all things were created, and by whom all things subsist, was that little Baby held in Mary's arms; that He was the same One who subjected Himself to the authority of Joseph and Mary; that He was the same One who was insulted by the religious leaders, mocked by His brothers, betrayed by His friend, and forsaken by the ones who were the closest to Him and by God Himself; that He was the One who, when His enemies came, stepped forward to protect His own and sacrifice Himself; that He was the One who subjected Himself to the wicked hands of His creatures who abused Him in such an inhumane way, treating with contempt the One who did "all things well," making the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak (Mk. 7:37); that He, the thrice-Holy One, was made sin voluntarily on the cross so that we could be saved: this is the One we would declare with admiration and love to be Wonderful!

When Isaiah had a vision of God, and heard the declaration by the angels, "Holy, holy, holy," he felt his own sinfulness and nothingness in the presence of such a One, and with awe bowed himself before Him, ascribing to Him honor and majesty and glory. This too should be our response as we consider the greatness and glory of our Lord; we should proclaim from the bottom of our hearts and with all our strength that He is Wonderful.

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-THE FALSE PROPHET

And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS

Read:
that when he cried to the Lord, the Lord healed him. This is another testimony of someone who believed in the God that answers prayers. May prayer for someone using this devotional is that as you cry unto God today, He will answer you as He answered Hannah, Jabez and Elijah in Jesus'...More

The bankruptcy that saves

None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him - for the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease for ever.

You were not redeemed with silver or gold from your aimless conduct but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and...More
