Christ Our Savior (12)—The Father Sent the Son.

And we have seen, and testify, that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.
1 John 4:14

Christ Our Savior (12)—The Father Sent the Son
In our final meditation on the Lord Jesus as Savior, we go back to what was from the beginning. This is one of John's themes (1 Jn. 1:1, 2:7, etc.). The relationship of the Father and the Son is eternal. The Son was loved by the Father before the foundation of the world (Jn. 17:24). Let us hold fast this truth!

The apostle John could say that "we," the apostles, had seen and could testify of this wonderful fact that the Son had been sent here by the Father (cf. 1 Jn. 1:3). We see an Old Testament illustration in Jacob sending his son Joseph to his other sons: "And he sent him out of the vale of Hebron" (Gen. 37:14). Hebron means communion. From that place of communion with his father Jacob, Joseph was sent forth on a mission to his brothers.

And so from that eternal place of love and communion the Father sent His beloved Son into this world to be the Savior. A Savior just for the Jews? No, thankfully, for the world, another of the themes of John's writings. By God's grace each one of us who has believed can put our name there. He came as the Savior for me.

Now in amazing grace, as the Father sent Him, so He sends every believer out to represent Him in this world (see Jn. 20:21). None of us are sent as a savior, but we can point others to the Savior whom the Father has sent.

What about you? Have you turned to the Lord Jesus as this heaven-sent Savior? Good works and ceremonies cannot save you. Christ and His work saves. And for those of us who have believed, we can rejoice that He is an "all-the-way-home Savior," as someone has put it. He has saved us from our sins, He is saving us from the dangers and temptations of the way, and soon, as we have previously seen, He will save us by bringing us into His presence. Hallelujah, what a Savior!
