Freed from slavery

But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
Romans 6:17

Freed from slavery
Throughout history, both nationally and internationally, the slave trade has been repeatedly fought against. Unfortunately, however, many people – especially women, children and the poor – are still oppressed and abused in many countries under the most terrible conditions. Forced prostitution, human trafficking, and smuggling are commonplace – often even in our immediate surroundings! Surely we remember the cruel scenes that unfolded in the autumn of 2021 at the border between Belarus and Poland.

In addition to actual deprivation of freedom, there are also enslavements such as drug addiction, alcoholism, gambling or pornography from which many people cannot break free. And there is a form of dependence that affects everyone: the tendency to sin, to think, speak, or act badly. No one can claim exemption from this.

But Jesus came to free us from the slavery of sin. To do this, He had to pay a high price on the cross: His own life! Whoever now realises that he is a sinful person and accepts Christ as his substitute not only receives freedom as a gift but also an eternal future in heaven. He then belongs to those who have been “bought at a price” (1 Corinthians 6:20). Those who have experienced this liberation willingly serve the Lord Jesus, their new Master.

The disciples of Jesus referred to themselves as “servants (or slaves) of Jesus Christ”, but they did so voluntarily and with great joy! Because their Master was so good to them it was an honour and a joy to serve Him!

Whom do you serve? If it’s the Lord Jesus, then you are truly free!

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 16:1-21 · Luke 23:1-12

ACCEPTED TIME 2

God is never too early and He is never too late. His timetable is set on purpose; the purpose is not only for your sake but also for His. In all things, His name shall be glorified. No doubt, He would have been glorified healing Lazarus of his sickness, but this can't compare to raising him from the dead after four...More

IMPEDIMENTS TO PRAYER

. He is looking for those who are ready and committed to walking in His footsteps. God is holy, and He has called us to holy living. We are to do as He commands because we are the light of the world. God in Heaven is glorified when our light shines in the midst of the darkness of this world. If you...More

Standing in the limelight

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern for all who are going to believe on him for everlasting life.
1 Timothy 1:15.16.
