The body that is “sown”

So is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.

Our Saviour Jesus Christ has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

1 Corinthians 15:42.43; 2 Timothy 1:10.

The body that is "sown"
On the tombstone of the French author Paul Claudel stands no date, but only this epitaph: "Here rest the mortal remains and the seed of Paul Claudel", no doubt inspired by Paul's epistle to the Corinthians. While it is easy to understand that a grave contains the remains of a person, it is more surprising that the remains in the earth speak of a hope of life. Yet that is what the Bible proclaims. Man's corpse is "sown" in some way, whether by burial in a cemetery or at sea, or cremated.

Just as a grain of seed sown in the ground dies to germinate and produce a fresh plant, so, too, man's body through God's powerful intervention will "germinate". That is resurrection. All the dead will rise again, but not at the same time.

Believers of all generations who have received life from God will rise again when Jesus Christ comes to take them to glory to be with Himself in the Father's house (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17)

At the end of time the bodies of all who have refused the varied testimonies of God's goodness will be resurrected to appear before the Judge, the Lord Jesus Himself (Acts 20:11).

The resurrection is an indisputable fact for everyone: rather meet the Lord Jesus today as Saviour than see Him later as one's judge. Come to Him as you are. Accept His grace and the place that He offers you in the Father's house. Tomorrow could be too late.

Today's reading: Exodus 16:1-12 · Luke 7:11-17

Know When To Say Nothing

The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue.' Isaiah 50:4 NIV

Isaiah writes: The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.'

Let's face it;...More
