(Read 2 Kings 7:1-3 & 16-20)

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
Galatians 6:7.

(Read 2 Kings 7:1-3 & 16-20)
When a terrible famine weighed heavily on a city in which the people of Israel were under siege, God proclaimed some good news: their enemies had been put to flight, and the famine would end. At this news one of the king's aides de camp derided God: "If the LORD would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?" He refused the grace of God announced by the prophet Elisha, who retorted, "You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it." And when deliverance came, that man was the only one not to benefit by it.

In our day mockers are numerous: it is a characteristic of our age. The Bible warns against it: "Scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts" (2 Peter 3:3). For them, just as for the king's aide de camp, the Word of God has no value. They trust what is visible, deliberately ignoring what God has revealed. God could judge them as He did that man, but He is "longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish" (2 Peter 3:9). Judgment is "his awesome work, his unusual act" (Isaiah 28:21), because He loves His creature and "desires all men to be saved" (1 Timothy 2:4).

Today He still offers His grace to all. Let us not lend an ear to those who mock, but believe the Word of God, which is "for ever settled in heaven" (Psalm 119:89).

Today's reading: Exodus 28:15-30 · Luke 11:29-42

MEAL OF REMEMBRANCE

The Holy Communion is a very significant meal. Unlike regular meals, it a meal of remembrance. When some people take this meal, they forget to heed the instruction in today's Bible reading where the Lord repeatedly said "this do in remembrance of Me". In other words, the meal reminds us of God's power of...More
