September 19, 2015 Today's reading: 1 Corinthians 4 And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men. Mark 6:44 Every Jew in Christ's day presumably believed that God could perform miracles. But who believes in God's miracles today, let alone that Jesus Christ has the same miraculous power? I can almost hear some uttering that derogatory objection: "Oh, that unbelievable strange story of the feeding of the five thousand! I know that from lessons in religious instruction." That may be. The biblical account carries weight and deserves to be scrutinised carefully. All four gospels report the event. Five thousand men (their families are not mentioned) had come to hear Jesus preaching. Evening had fallen, and their bodies needed feeding. Food was missing. There were only five loaves and two fishes - a ridiculously small amount in view of the multitude present. Is God ever embarrassed? Not at all, as many will still acknowledge. But what about Jesus Christ, a human being? He was indeed a human like us, yet the Son of God, too. None of those present reckoned with a miracle. So the people of that time were no different from us today. But a miracle happened: under the Lord's able hands there was an immense, inexplicable increase in the loaves and fishes, so that the left-overs filled baskets. Can you believe that? If you consider the unlimited power of the Creator, the problem disappears. Jesus Christ would dearly turn your life for the good. Open your heart to the Son of God, trust Him and yield your life to Him completely! |

Open Heavens for Friday, February 28, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More |
