The power of the deity

I lay down my life that I may take it again. I have power to lay it down and I have power to take it again.
John 10:17.18.

The power of the deity
The Lord Jesus revealed the power that He had as the Son of God in His life, His death and His resurrection.

On the Lake of Gennesaret He commanded the storm: "Peace, be still!" (Mark 4:39). The wind dropped, and calm reigned. When demon-possessed people were brought to Him, He drove out the evil spirits with a word; He was stronger than the devil (Matthew 8:16; 9:32; 12:22). At the tomb of a deceased friend Lazarus He cried out with a loud voice: "Lazarus, come forth!" The dead man came to life and left the grave (John 11:43). In the garden of Gethsemane He revealed His identity to His enemies, saying: "I am he." Overcome by His divine power, they receded and fell to the ground (John 18:6).

When He was nailed to the cross, He did not die from the effects of that brutal execution. No-one could take His life. When all had been accomplished, He yielded His life with divine authority. John described how it happened: "Bowing his head, he gave up his spirit" (John 19:30).

Three days later He rose from the dead, having revived by His own divine power. This was the clearest proof that He is the Son of God (cf. Romans 1:4). By His resurrection he confirmed His victory over the power of death.

Today's reading: Exodus 35:20-35 · Luke 16:1-13

What shall the baptized for the dead do if those that are baptized rise not at all? Why also are they baptized for them?
(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More
